Spotted 03 Alter Ego de Palmer at Union Square Wines at $27.99 yesterday, had a bottle with friends over dinner last night, notes below. I only saw one more bottle in the rack, but it’s still listed on their website, so you might still be able to grab this…

2003 Alter Ego de Palmer - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux (2/22/2009)
There’s barnyard, leather, and gamy meat along with plummy fruit on the nose. The palate is tannic but generous and full of fruit. With time this fruit develops into a very strong cherry flavor that is surprisingly primary still. Moderately long finish. This is good stuff for the $28 sale price I picked this up for; it has long years ahead of it. This and other midrange 2003 bordeaux that I have had lately have been open enough, but clearly have many years of development in front of them to develop tertiary elements. (91 pts.)
