TCWC sold an exceptional single cellar sale a couple of years back.
The sale completely flew under the radar for the most part.
There was a full case of 1947 Cheval Blanc in wood and a double magnum of 1947 Cheval Blanc.
The double magnum was rebouchee 1982 at the Chateau and was authenticated by them as well last year.
Had to be the 1988 Gevrey “Combottes” in that case, as Peter began importing Jacky Truchot in the 1984 vintage (which Jacky actually hit out of the park, btw- best damn 1984 reds I ever tasted from Burgundy). However, the Combottes was always blended into the Gevrey AC bottling until Peter finally talked Jacky into bottling it on its own in the 1988 vintage. There were only three barrels of Combottes, and Peter got two each year once he got it split out from the villages bottling. However, Jacky’s 1987s were pretty lovely examples of that vintage too, so it was probably still a good bottle of wine, even if it was not Combottes. Possibly, someone had a mixed case of Truchot wines in the cellar and the labels came off in storage (I have tons of Jacky bottles where this has happened and had to be scotch-taped back on to make sure I kept track of what was what), so it is certainly possible that someone owned a mixed box and did not know where the labels went when they came off…
