Boeschen seems to tick all the boxes
I think you are 100% right. Looks like they produce some very good wines.
Seems that way, but most if not all of the recent reviews were all from the same person! Anyone else have experience with Boeschen Cabernet?
Thoughts on today’s NDA wine? Sounds like a Jesse Katz bottling based on the description.
have 25 off 75 amex promo staring at me.
Does anyone see any good opporunities at wineaccess? I am not seeing anything jump out.
Been a while since I’ve used WineAccess with AMEX offers. I have 2 x $25 off $75, anyone know if you can get $50 off $150 with one purchase?
Or do you need to make 2 separate purchases?
When I have used it in the past, I could do it in one transaction.
The 2023 Off The Cuff today has to be from Heimark Vineyard. Worth a purchase it would seem!
I see there is a 2023 Word Choice available now too. All signs point to Cliff Lede Vineyards.
Any thoughts on ‘23 Yesterday Napa, from Oakville?
I recall the ‘18 and ‘19 Yesterdays were thought to be very high caliber wines and were well received.
All it will let me copy over:
We reserve the Yesterday label for wineries that are conic or even “cult”—the kind people would scarcely believe they could buy at this price. This 2023 release hails from an Oakville estate that neighbors three or four of Napa’s most famous houses—including arguably the region’s biggest legend, where bottles go for $1,000 and more. Crafted by two 100-point consultants, today’s NDA-protected wine would, under another label, go for $400+. For this? A FRACTION of that price for seamless, supple Cabernet from Oakville’s most exclusive corner.
I bought some. ChatGPT thought it to be Tor. However, ChatGPT Pro says it is Dalla Valle.
Don’t think it can be Tor, as they don’t have any Oakville estate fruit. I am leaning towards Tench Vineyards, as they’re surrounded by Screaming Eagle, Dalla Valle, etc. and they recently hired Atelier Melka as consulting winemakers…
A google search of Jeb Dunnuck “insanely good” brings up a note where he calls the regular Dalla Valle “insanely good.” Maybe this is something he says about many wines though.
I don’t drink enough cab to be tempted here, but remember buying a few bottles of the first of these Yesterday Oakville wines and it was well liked when I opened it for others.
Jeb Dunnuck described the 2021 Bevan Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon from Tench Vineyard as “insanely good,” giving it a 98-point rating. He also used the “insanely good” descriptor for the Tench Vineyard’s EE Red Wine blend in 2016. I think it’s a fairly common descriptor, but - given the above - I’m holding firm on my Tench guess.
Ha, apparently he is just very fond of that phrase.
Interestingly, the text could be read to suggest either of those options:
"This property has always been considered in league with the big boys. But this will be their breakout season —the year they moved from “one of the best” status to fully “iconic.” Or as Jeb Dunnuck has described their recent Cabernets: ‘insanely good.’”
On one hand, Dalla Valle isn’t exactly an up-and-comer, so suggesting that they are somehow changing in status would be weird. On the other, the statement he made about the Dalla Valle was about the standard Napa bottling in comparison to the Maya, which seems more aligned with “their recent cabernets,” as opposed to one single wine. But given his penchant for that phrase, perhaps he described more than one from Tench in that way. Of course, all of this is just ad print and one likely shouldn’t try to read too much precision into the chosen language.
“Described by Jeb Dunnuck as “insanely good”: Dunnuck has praised Tor’s Cabernets in precisely those terms in recent reviews.”
Haha, I think you are right!
I bought a few of the 2018 Yesterdays because the I got sucked into the marketing copy that was essentially promising declassified bottles of what normally goes for many hundreds of dollars or whatever.
Thought they were fine and had no real complaints at $25-30 ish a bottle, but at no point did I think I was drinking a blue chip wine or have any desire to ever go back for more. Obviously YMMV!
this has been my experience with every single one of these NDA wines. Perfectly fine wines, but no way any of them live up to the hype.
Good for blind tasting and everyday consumption but that’s about it.
I had several that were fine, then one cabernet that was so sweet I found it undrinkable (think worse than Caymus). Since then I don’t risk buying them.
The 2023 Yesterday Reserve was most excellent right off the truck. Our guests agreed. I bought another case right away. Good stuff for $28
