My daughter got me back into drinking shots of tequila for a handful of years she was in undergrad and law school. I drank quite a bit of it during my years at VaTech. My revisiting that stuff is over, for good.

BC has also publicised the same actions. Other provinces not in the news (here anyway) but probably following suit.
[There is quite a buy Canadian / boycott USA groundswell building generally. Not sure how far actions can follow fine words we shall see, but that’s a wider topic].

Ontario Premier Ford:
“Every year, LCBO sells nearly $1 billion worth of American wine, beer, spirits and seltzers. Not anymore…the government of Ontario has directed (the) LCBO to indefinitely stop all sales of U.S. alcohol products in our stores and online and to stop wholesale sales…”

I don’t know if we are including Spirits in this thread, but his is a problem if it drags out for whiskey producers stateside, I would imagine China will also introduce retaliatory tariffs as as they are also a large import market for those products as well. Coupled with a whiskey slump is not a recipe for success.

Mexico knows the game… negotiates with some border guards, and boom tariff on hold.
Canada playing tough guy and retaliates, and this is gonna suck for everyone. i can’t imagine the tariff is for anything but negotiation leverage…

The LCBO is the largest buyer of American whiskey outside of the US.
While this probably isn’t a discussion to continue in Wine Talk, I do agree you’ve hit the most interesting and important question there. What is the underlying objective?
Are you saying this is just a clever ruse for another agenda?
Like I said, it’s not a topic to delve into in Wine Talk, but I think on the issue generally, there is a question of tactics and underlying objective.
