Wine Store Near Downtown Chicago

I am visiting Downtown Chicago next week and was wondering if anyone could recommend a decent wine store near there that has a nice selection of Bordeaux and Napa Cabs.

Thanks!

Luis, Binny’s is pretty good. Nice walk from Michigan Ave. There is a good seafood place nearby on the same street grand Av.

Agreed, for Napa Cabs and Bordeaux downtown, Binnys is a good choice.

I would also add, if you’re looking for something aged you could browse the selection at HDH and pick something up (they don’t have a retail store, but you can buy online and pick up):

Or Flickinger can deliver to your hotel (for a fee, of course) http://www.flickingerwines.com/index.aspx

Thanks for the recommendations.

Clayton,

How far is HDH from downtown? Could I take the train there.

Luis,

I concur with the recommendations for Binny’s. Huge selection. HDH is at Erie and Orleans. If “downtown” means River North, you could walk. If you are in the South Loop, it’s a short cab ride.

Brad,

I am staying at The Palmer House so I will go to Binny’s and HDH. Thanks for the recommendation. Steve Sigmond gave me some great restaurant recommendations.

Since you’re staying at the Palmer House, give yourself a but of time to spend at Merz Apothecary, which is located inside the hotel. All kinds of grooming products from around the globe. If you like shaving or any sort of smelly stuff (particularly after shaves) the place is nirvana.

If you’re going to HDH, the Binny’s on Grand and Franklin is your best bet (the two stores are fairly close – certainly walkable). Keith Aker$ works at that Binny’s location – you might want to ask if he’s around.

Remember…HDH has no storefront and you need to purchase inline only to pick up at Erie st location.

You also need to give them time to pull your wine for you. Their website says 24 hours but they have always been much quicker than that but you have to ask. They have great customer service.

I’ll just pile on and recommend HDH as well. But def go ahead and pick out your wines before. Then they will have them pulled for you. Also, go see Keith at Binny’s.
