This is a cliffhanger. I can’t stand the suspense.

Serge Birbrair:I don’t buy wines on the auctions for way too many reasons, and my advice to those who do,
NEVER buy the wines from “11 bottles” lotsWhy not?
Because…
if you bought the case, and some people do, opened the bottle and didn’t like the wine, what would you do having auction house URL in your bookmarks?
Seems to me that 11 bottle lots make as much sense if not more than 12 bottles.
People buy a case, cellar it for a while, try one, decide that it’s not to their liking an they need the space so they sell it.
If there’s a whole case I’m curious as to why they didn’t try one. Are they hoping that a full case will sell for a higher price?
Dave, here is one more argument against buying 11 bottles lots:

11 is just a bad number …

Notice in that thread I was the first to call Montelena…that shows you what a non event that was.

Yeah, but I was the first to make the real call on that thread.

So is a “7” after the come out roll (if you play the pass line that is).
I don’t buy wines on the auctions for way too many reasons…
Same here. Never have, never will.

Noel, my biggest problem is lack of billions to entertain myself with 20 years long lawsuits…but as soon as I put my hands on them, I’ll start buying on auctions and write “monumental” tasting notes
Anybody wants to sell me 11 bottles of 1937 La Lache with Napoleon Bonaparte signature to start the ball rolling?

Serge, you do buy bottles second hand from retailers that buy collections. Do you feel that those are safer?

Quite. It’s the 10-bottle case that is the really suspicious one. The owner couldn’t believe how bad the first bottle was, so he had to open another…
cheers,
