WIne Searcher Location Search Changes

You have to go into change location and then type in United States. Each time. It’s very frustrating.

Last couple of times I tried, it was not allowing the change to US. Finally worked

How’d you get it to work? Mine (desktop in this case) is set to CA USA. There’s a “Change” option, which does allow me to set to United States, with a save option, but it doesn’t work. I still get listings from worldwide, then have to filter through to find where USA sources kick in. Truly annoying, and I hope their team is reading here. PITA.

I’ve sent them my complaints and got a very quick, personalized (probably by a bot) ‘so sorry’ reply that did and meant nothing.
I now rarely use them and will not pay for their ‘services’.

Great timing for this thread as my subscription is about to expire.

On the iOS app, mine is set to US. I see the option to change it to worldwide, but I’m reluctant to try it for fear I might not be able to switch back.

I sent them a couple of emails about the problem. We will see if I get a response. I had to change the location to California(from California) and then it let me change it to United States.

App or web site?

website. tried it on the app also and it does seem to revert to the state but you can change it back to US

In Europe it appears as if the previous distinction between “Europe” and the “EEA” has gone which means I cannot exclude the UK from results as previously. Its now using some “google maps” product that keeps bringing up EU buildings when trying to keep the UK out. I’ve also written to them but no response received. The previous format was way better.

I have no problem switching back and forth between Worldwide, United States, and Maryland on the website.

It’s annoying that it has to be done every time and takes more steps than it used to. Also annoying that none of the other settings are sticky unless you go Pro. If I have to set the location every time anyway…

yep. Higher prices and lesser service. Welcome to Merica.

Extremely frustrating change. They have fixed some of the bugs, but still sometimes when I change my location it will not “take” a time or two until it does finally work.

But even when it works, given the way I use winesearcher- where I am often searching in different jurisdictions since I have various collection points, or when appraising and need to take a certain scope of range into account- it has become quite arduous. Only other option is to look at everything worldwide knowing a big % of the options will not be viable.

Like some of you I sent a detailed explanation and request they consider reverting and just got back a generic response. Happily I can manage with other resources until they fix this- I plan to not renew in the hopes enough voices will force a change back.

BTW- I agree with those of you who think this is motivated by some kind of additional revenue stream. Does anyone find the “Best Offer” feature useful? Most of the time I get a rec at prices well above WS averages- even among reputable merchants. Someone is clearly paying a premium to be featured as a “Best Offer” seller- but we consumers who also pay are not getting a fair value for our money there. At least it does not impact site functionality- but still, it is insulting.

+1

If anything for EU, they should have added a function to exclude all non-EU member states. With UK in it significantly reduced the value of the site for every stakeholder and user of their services. It’s about as helpful as getting Canadian offers when in US.

The sh**ty change for the worse on location is bugging me too.

I wonder how dropping WSPro would affect me. You can lose hundreds on a single order, but on the other hand, you make way more purchases when you can easily find wines and bargains. I’d probably save money?

The “Best Offer” nonsense started a good while before this latest refresh. It is the exact opposite of WS’s primary purpose.
