Another vote for aged Barbaresco…classic match.
Gruner veltliner
My favorite wine with veal chops is Domaine Serene Coeur Blanc. It is a barrel age white pinot noir, that is extremely delightful on its own, but wonderful with grilled veal chops. I buy veal chops with the sole intention of having another bottle of D.S.Coeur Blanc.

Of course we should ban a poster who suggests not having wine with food. We should ban beer recommenders while we’re at it, too. I always chuckle a the posts asking for advice on a wine pairing only to see several of the experienced and knowledgeable palates here recommend anything but wine!
I believe many people have become confused as to what board they are posting on. Big hint: it’s not called Spring Water Berserkers. ![]()
Oh yeah, I recommend an Alsacian Pinot Gris to go with wood-grilled veal chop. Should complement the smoky flavors perfectly.
A traditionally styled CDP with some age would be nice.
The grilled Veal chops were a smash hit! The smoke flavor and char on the meat was perfect. We paired them with an '09 Plumbjack Syrah, '06 Turley “Ueberroth” Zin and a '09 St. Innocent Justice Vineyard Pinot Noir. All three went extremely well. We opened a 2010 Schafer Red Shoulder Ranch Chardonnay to go with a goat cheese, roasted garlic and Portabello mushroom appetizer. Wow, what a combination! Prior to that I opened a 2012 Morlet Joli Coeur Pinot Noir to get the palate ready for the nights festivities. The Morlet was closed down at first and a bit stemmy, but with air it really started to open up and sing… very complex and sophisticated. That Pinot has serious upside potential with a bit of age. A cheese course was paired with 1976 Quinto do Noval Colheita Tawny Port and wonderful '00 Chateau Bicoty Monbazillac.
It was a great evening spent with folks that love wine and food as much as my wife and I.
