They’ve got a 1994 Diamond Creek Lake Vineyard for $700 on their list. Might be a typo or a fabulous opportunity because you’d pay twice that on the secondary market, let alone 5-6 times that at most restaurants.
I second the 98 Conseillante.
ALSO: It’s always interesting to me on huge wine lists like this how out of whack some of the relative pricing can become as some things get added or adjusted and other things don’t. Like, this same list has a 1998 Mondotte at $880. Whatever you think of those two wines it is so far out of current market pricing to have the Mondotte be 2.5x the price of the Conseillante.
Yeah, in US dollars it’s only 255. I think 1998 Pomerol is one of the best vintages of any appellation of my generation.
I’d take a serious look at the 1999 Trotanoy at $330 CAD.
Just make sure to request decanting for at least 2 hours prior to dinner.
Just adding to make sure the wine is appropriately paired with the right dish(es).
Quite a list. Looking for something at full maturity, the 1994 Sammarco catches my eye (and leaves enough money for a NV Champagne).
We ate there many years ago and loved it. We had a Felsina Fontalloro, IIRC. Some from the current list that caught my eye -
2010 Valdicava BdM
1998 Ornellaia
2000 d’Alceo
1994 Sammarco
1993 Bouchard Volnay Fremiets or Le Corton
1983 Hermitage La Chapelle
1998 Certan de May
1998 Conseillante
2000 Magdelaine (or 04 or 05)
No recommendations here, but I love The Post. We had the good fortune to have 6 or 7 dinners there back in '15 and '16. We mostly drank Chablis, other white Burgs, and white Rhones. Such a beautiful dining room in a wonderful setting. Fantastic memories. Enjoy!
The link isn’t working for me now, but looked at last night and agree the Bdx especially Magdelaine are better priced than the Burgs, though for me '00 and '05 very young.
Not especially smartly priced, but I had the '06 Jadot/Gagey Baudes recently and it showed well if young (but some mature notes). Though maybe more Jadot than Chambolle.
Stayed there for a family vacation in 2018. Ditto what Robert.A said.
Was overwhelmed by the wine list but had a very patient and helpful sommelier. So although no specific recommendations I am hopeful you enjoy your visit as much as we did.
That’s a fun list. So rare to find a list this good. Enjoy!
