I’m going to Bluebeard tonight and need some wine list help. Party of four, all wine lovers, one is ITB with a distributor. The wine list looks great for my type of budget. Here are my parameters:
I am leaning toward 2 bottles of old world white, ~$200 total. Prefer laser, lemon, racy acidity. No heavy petrol, no sour tropical NZ SB style.
Could also go with 1 white and 1 red, ~$225 total. Low ABV reds only.
Last time I went to Bluebeard, the wine list was completely different from what I saw online. All the gems I saw were gone. Not sure if they have gotten things more in sync these days.
nothing to add on the wine side of the equation other than to say I am completely jealous that you are going to Bluebeard!!! The food there is excellent! enjoy
I don’t have any experience with that particular wine, but every Vocoret I have had I really liked so I personally do not worry too much about vintage, especially with producers I trust. That being said the CT notes are encouraging.
Totally a personal preference thing but give me Fiano over Gruner any day. If they really have the 2019 as claimed then I am giving this a spin for $50.
good catch, that is in fact the one I was thinking of not realizing there was an older domaine from the family, I am unfamiliar with those wines, I saw Vocoret and ran with it.
It’s not for the OP but I also thought the '01 mag at $300 seemed like a good buy. That is a tight and fairly personal list, seems like someone there cares about wine.
May not be the right vibe for the group but I’ve never seen a Cibonne Cuvée Marius on a list before I don’t think — I’ve certainly had my eye out for one. That would be thought provoking
Epilogue: @Andrew_K was right. The online wine list was… inaccurate. To Bluebeard’s credit (and my gentle nudging) they took down the old list the very next day.
We shared two bottles:
2023 Joseph Colin Bourgogne Aligote Les Jardins ($80). A good white with quenching acidity. Would have liked a bit more cut but I’d buy this if I saw it at retail.
2012 LdH Tondonia Reserva ($120). This was excellent. I had them chill it for about 20 mins. It worked nicely with three disparate mains: lamb ragu, sweet corn ravioli, and an 1/2 Amish chicken.
Dessert was a pistachio tart that paired exceptionally well with a Tokaji (me) a Chenin Blanc (with some RS) and a lager, of all things.
Bluebeard is terrific. We were there for 3 hrs and would have stayed longer had they not turned the lights back up.
