I’ve posted this wine list in the past, but it has been updated.
Their new Wednesday 1/2 off bottles are now $150 or less. Previously, it was $100 or less. We are having dinner here tomorrow (Wednesday).
I am looking for a red and a white or champagne that will go with a variety. I’m not sure which direction we will go. We’ve had Foillard Cote du Py a couple of times here, so something in that vein might be good.
I believe half bottles are included in the deal. Billecart-Salmon Brut Rosé ($120) is on my radar. Roederer 243 (full size) is also on my radar.
What would you choose for 1/2 off bottle night?
For a white, the PYCM Aligote should be versatile and at the half-off rate is reasonable.
Bigger red, maybe the Tempier Bandol “Lulu and Lucien”.
The Au Bon Climat La Bauge Au-dessus stands out as both a good wine at a good price and one of Jim’s last wines so would be my pick for a pinot.
Cheers,
fred
if you like the foillard, try a marsanny from sylvain pataille. there were a couple options ≤$150. other strong choices available from cottenceau, dureiul janthial (both reds and whites), some bruno clairs, etc
I like the Sylvain Pataille idea. I would also suggest the Chateau Musar, Domain Tempier or Chateau Simone reds.
For white the Selbach-Oster “Zeltinger Schlossberg” GG
I have little Burgundy knowledge outside of Beaujolais, so the Sylvain Pataille might be a good one for us to try. I don’t know where to begin with Burgundy…
I’m far from a Burg expert but I’d be tempted by the Dureuil-Janthial Rully Rouge based on raves here on WB.
Ask for Anthony Taylor. He’s the Beverage Director. I’m sure he’ll steer you well. I can let him know to look for you.
And be sure to ask him about his dogs!
If you’re not averse to RS, I’d think about the Willi Schaefer riesling. His 2024s are generating raves (I’ve not had them) and you won’t find many chances to check one out for $55.
A dry white I’d consider is the Colombera “Il Montino.” Another one I’ve not tried personally, but I love timorasso and many seem to consider this bottling the top of the heap (and a steal at $50).
On reds, I agree with Robert on Tempier and Simone (not so much on Musar as I don’t think that one is the top “Estate” bottling), and would add from Italy one of the Pianelle Bramaterras or the Mastroberardino “Radici” Taurasi (assuming that is the Taurasi - which it doesn’t specify - and not some other bottling) for consideration.
Pataille made excellent wines (red and white) in 2021. Crisp, almost peppery (reds), delicious food wines.
Falanghina for the white, Schioppettino for the the red.
I like the Pataille suggestion. Paul Pillot Chassagne village 2020 at $145 is near WS low, at 50% off a deal. Good cellartracker comments.
I agree, I preferred Longeroies 2021 to 2022 by a lot.
Would absolutely go for the Dureuil Janthial Rully blanc 2022 at 120 USD full price (alternatively the 19) - absolutely brilliant, and great value at the 50% off price… His reds are also nice, but not on par with the whites in my book at least =)
I think the whites are generally better but the wadana is up there with the best reds made outside the cdn.
Hi Abbie,
As Ken said earlier, I am the wine director at Cru. You are correct, our new half off Wednesday now goes up to $150, and has expanded our offerings to almost 500. I know that can be a little intimidating (but it also is how I keep my job). We always have a somm on the floor, sometimes several that happy to assist with your selections, based on what you’re in the mood for! Also, yes 375ml are included. The online list is always in real-time but can be pretty dynamic. What day is your reservation, and what is the name under? Let me know, I will definitely swing by to say hi.
Cheers,
Anthony, Wine/Beverage Director, Cru Uncorked.
Hi Anthony! We love Cru. We live across the street, an easy 5 minute walk. ![]()
We will be there tonight. Reservation is under Bender. I believe my husband reserved a table in the bar area. We like sitting in there. We look forward to meeting you.
Can anyone tell me how these two wines differ in style?
Dureuil-Janthial Rully Rouge (2022)
Domaine Sylvain Pataille “Clémengeots” Marsannay (2020 or 2021)
pataille veers more in the direction of a natural, low s02, aromatic style which usually shows exhuberent stem and spice notes on the nose. geographically speaking, marsannay is located in the cote de nuits.
dureuil janthial will show more classical, probably a bit more noticeable oak influence, is mostly destemmed, and is from further south in the cote chalonnaise.
I’ve had the D-J recently, frankly a little too ripe and simple for my tastes.
The Pataille wines are sleeker, more tension. I personally love the 21 style, which is fairly light, but flavorful with good depth and great acidity, some bottlings show nice peppery spice.
Yeah I think the regular DJ Rully isn’t the most complex wine but has very beautiful fruit.
