Saw this and thought I’d chime in. We try to be competitive on all our wines and routinely check them against wine-searcher. On top of that, we carry a number of wines that consumers would be hard pressed to find on the East Coast – let alone New York – particularly at retail.
It’s tough to beat California pricing on some wines when they just have to be trucked down the street direct from the winery! (but for everyone out East you still have to ship it here so our pricing should beat that.)
In any case, I don’t want to turn this into a sales pitch so feel free to PM or email me with any specifics on what drew the “Yikes!” (as we never want to see that response to anything of ours) and we’ll be sure to re-look at our pricing to make sure we remain competitive. We really want to be known for fair prices and great customer service and not for overpriced wines!
Nice people. fair pricing, some rare stuff.
Worthy of the attention of anyone that happens to drink and enjoy California wine.
Brick and mortar in this day and age takes balls.
Point taken Taylor. I often forget how spoiled we can be in California with our wine shops, especially in the Orange County area. I don’t want to go and ping all of your wines and raise issues with the prices. I just looked across the lists of Pinots, Syrahs and Zins real quick plus a few of the Cabs and found that the sale prices brought them down to what they are locally here. But you are in New York so I’m willing to bet that your prices are very good if Jorge took the time to post it.
It just gives me one more reason to laugh at you East Coasters.
A very fair point from Cris. It’d be the same as us east coasters purchasing in Cali and shipping over here. For someone in the neighborhood (or within a 200 mile radius) these are great prices.
Thanks for the tip. I just ordered a case of D.R. Stephens Moose Valley (3 vintages)…wait, why am I thanking you I can’t even afford these! Damn this internet thing! [suicide.gif]
I have, but at a much higher price (around $80). I don’t think it’s as good as the 2004 but for $41 it’s a very nice wine. I “scored” it a 91 back in April of 08 but since I don’t write any tasting notes that’s really only helpful to me - and even limited help at that. WS only gave it an 89 but I would think that had a lot to do with its $100 release price. I think I left one bottle at Cali Wine Merchants so I could buy 2 of the 2000. I took all 6 of the 2002 - I’ve heard this was excellent both firsthand and based on CT notes.
