Wow, kickass sale at Grapes the Wine Co.

1996 Deutz Brut Rose Cuvee William Deutz
42 btls available
Regular Price: $225/btl
Grapes Sale Price: $179/btl (SAVE 21%!)
WA 98 (Hedonist Gazette-May 2006)
“This is the fourth bottle of this rare, exquisite Champagne that I would rate this highly. What an extraordinary offering! It seems to me that the Deutz firm has ratcheted up the level of quality for all their cuvées. Moreover, given the price for Dom Pérignon Rosé or Louis Roederer Cristal Rosé, this is a bargain.”

1996 Gosset Brut Celebris
34 btls available
Regular Price: $165/btl
Grapes Sale Price: $89/btl (SAVE 46%!)
IWC 93
“Explosive, pure aromas of vibrant tangerine, peach, passion fruit and poached pear, accented by Asian spices and minerals. Deep and rich, but with sharply focused citrus and peach flavors and a complex array of succulent herbs and baking spices adding personality and appeal. Tangy, focused and powerful on the impressively long finish, which offers a cornucopia of white and red fruits.”

1996 Henriot Brut Millesime
54 btls available
Regular Price: $69.99/btl
Grapes Sale Price: $49/btl (SAVE 30%!)
WS 94
“Racy, elegant and harmonious from start to finish. Candied citrus, honey and hazelnut flavors play out on a silky texture, and all is backed by a firm but unobtrusive structure. Lovely expression of the vintage.”

1996 Lanson Brut Gold Label
78 btls available
Regular Price: $56.99/btl
Grapes Sale Price: $39/btl (SAVE 32%!)
RJ 93
“It exhibits clearly what I’ve always said about Lanson’s Champagnes: in their infancy they are extremely tough, but in time will become exceptionally enjoyable and acquire a nutty depth. Already, just one year after launching, its more aggressive sides have been toned down, creating a much more pleasant “big picture.” Fantastic right now.”

1996 Pommery Cuvee Louise
90 btls available
Regular Price: $120/btl
Grapes Sale Price: $79/btl (SAVE 34%!)
RJ 93 (Wine Spectator gave the Brut 1996 a score of 94, but did not rate ther Cuvee Louise, which is typically a better wine)
“A very discreet type, with elegance as its motive force. There were several of us who unsuccessfully sought after magnificence until I understood that it was not that we should be looking for. In this wine Thierry Gasco has dared to create a vague air of the existential boardering on the unborn. Many – to put it crassly – are going to think that this wine is weak and pale, when precisely the lack of coarse clarity is its greatest asset.”

1996 Dom Ruinart Brut Rose
12 btls available
Regular Price: $299/btl
Grapes Sale Price: $199/btl (SAVE 33%!)
WS 93, WA 93
“A fresh, elegant rosé, with just a hint of strawberry and cherry flavors, while the citrus and smoke notes dominate. Very refined and well-integrated, with a firm aftertaste of cherry and spice.”-Bruce Sanderson

1996 Salon Blanc de Blanc
22 btls available
Regular Price: $360/btl
Grapes Sale Price: $259/btl (SAVE 28%!)
WS 95, IWC 95, WE 95
“A deep, vinous style, with understated power and grace. The lemon verbena, toast and honey aromas and flavors are propelled by the well-integrated structure and fine bubbles. There’s just a hint of greenness, marking its youthful impetuosity. Great length.”-Bruce Sanderson

Wow, I’m in on some of the Henriot!

My supplier of Henriot just emailed me to see if I wanted more. Quoted me $60 per btl wholesale. I offered some to him…

Dan, what did they say? FUNNY!!!

I would go for the Gosset in that line-up…

96 Henriot is a winner, I haven’t bought any in quite a while but $50 was the best price I found about 18 months ago.

Great price!

If I had more cake I’d go deep on the Henriot. Oddly I hate their NV stuff, but their vintage wines from top to bottom rock. $49 is a steal, thx Dan.

He said no. I told him he could make better commission on this one and he did not reply.

Liquor salesmen are funny!

Do they add taxes if you don’t live in NY and have the wines shipped out of state?

Scott

Where do you live?
