Next best WS Pro low price is $55.
I haven’t had enough Marcoux to really get a grasp on its style, has anyone here had the 2010? I usually tend to think that they are on the modern side of the spectrum.
Also, the review by Jancis Robinson mentioned that this wine reminded her of 09 Cos! ![[hitsfan.gif] hitsfan](/uploads/db3686/original/2X/e/e947a51436c5349e55dff3d0ae2b9bf6c68b9c3b.gif)
Tyler,
My take on this wine would put it in the middle ground of traditional and modern. I lean toward the trad/AFWE side of things, and it isn’t a top wine for my tastes, but I have at least liked it when I have tried it,
I don’t drink much CdP anymore, funny I found one of these. I agree it’s on the modern side of the spectrum, quite clean, but also very structured:
-
2010 Domaine de Marcoux Châteauneuf-du-Pape - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (12/17/2013)
Decanted to a dark ruby/garnet color and initial taste showed this wine shut down hard. Vigorous swirling starts to reveal a mostly savory mix of lavender, thyme, licorice, and maybe a hint of strawberry hiding in the background. After about an hour of air this all comes together into a well integrated and classic strawberry and garrigue attack, which slams into a wall of chewy tannin on the back end. Highly structured, it’s drinkable with food but better to give some time to come together. Stood up well to chili dogs.

According to my records these came from Last Bottle, price around $43.
an excellent price on an excellent wine, I shared a bottle of the 2001 with my staff yesterday and it was drinking beautifully
I swooped in and grab all the 2010 VV Mags, YIPPPEEE
MT
Love the 2012 and I certainly wouldn’t call it modern. It is deliciously slurpable though with great perfume.

One of my favorite CdP. Not overblown. Good balance and generally clean. A good price.
I’ll pipe in the 09 was in no way overblown, full of energy and snap.
Great wine
The 2010 VV is still the greatest young red wine I have ever tasted.
I don’t feel Marcoux is modern. Their elevage is pretty old school. While depending on vintage it may be riper than some people’s preference, I find them to be a more elegant CdP with purity and finesse, especially with a few years of bottle age.
My 2 cents
Thanks for all the feedback guys, I will go in for some of these. I think the comment by Jancis comparing to 09 Cos really got to me.
