I’m with Mike. The Riedel Ouverture Magnum Red Wine Glass is our everyday stem. Unlike many of the taller stems they fit in our dishwasher nicely and they seem fairly indestructible.
For everyday use I purchased Libbey glasses from a restaurant supply company called webrestaurantstore.com. The glasses are very sturdy and stand up to daily abuse very well. Not what I use for wine tastings or enjoying the finer stuff but they’re very well made.
Any comparisons to Riedel Vinum series, which is my current everyday glass?
My vinum glasses seem to be breaking more frequently than I’d like, and the price has been going up. I do like them, but wouldn’t mind something >$25/stem and that lasts a bit longer. Is the “cru” series roughly comparable (it looks like the most traditional shape).
If you are looking for an unbelievable QPR and quality glass for evaluating wines…the Hip, as Kevin says, is incomparable. It has changed my life in that regard. Zalto-level glasses for $6-7. Pardon Our Interruption I have both them and Zalto and used them interchangably. I can tell the difference, but …don’t think of it as all that great for tasting/enjoying wines. And, those glasses really add to the everyday experience, which is what I need most.
