Wine glass help requested

I am in the market for a smaller wine glass. I have Cabernet and Burgundy glasses.

I have seen Riedel Zinfandel and Chablis glasses (Vinum) and think that’s about the right size and shape but find them pretty expensive.
Any thoughts on similar glasses that are reasonably durable but less expensive?

I will use them for many whites, rose and some lighter reds.

Thanks in advance . . .

Schott Zwiesel Forte series

Jim, do you have a capacity or maximum height in mind?

Jim, we use the Riedel Ouverture Red Wine glasses. Relatively small, pretty durable. I take these to offlines and group tastings, and use them at home. The go nicely in the dishwasher. Every now and then I break one (usually the stem attaching to the glass), but that’s only if I do something stupid like hit it or drop it fairly hard. I have tons of these, mostly free from various tastings I’ve been to where they use them.

You can easily find them for $8 apiece, probably less somewhere.

Another vote for Schott Zwiesel. We use the Forte line for whites at home. Great glasses, nice taper, strong as hell but they come across as elegantly made. I feel like they’ve renamed some of the line–we use the previously named ‘red wine’ glass, which is about 14oz (a touch bigger than Riedel zin, but I like the shape better).

You could also probably find a restaurant contact to order the Riedel restaurant zin glass for you–it’ll probably work out to ~$5 a stem and they’re significantly stronger than the vinums.

I’m sure you can find these at deep discount.

I’ve been very happy with Crate & Barrel’s Vineyard series glasses, and use the Zinfandel glass as an everyday glass. They’re $15, the glass is very thin, they are handblown so there is no rough seam at the base of the bowl (a bugaboo for me) and they have proved very durable. I’ve had a dozen or so and have only broken one or two over several years, always when I’ve done something stupid.

Around 13-14 oz.
Height is not of great import as the storage space is ample. But nothing as tall as a Vinum Cabernet.

Is there a difference in the Tritan series?

Spiegelau Authentis white wine glass. Looks nice, the hand-feel is OK. Durable and incredibly versatile.

S-Z Forte here also. The wine/water glass

Another vote for Spiegelau. The Authentis line has a few models you should look at:

Also peruse the Festival line:

Check out there Cantina glasses too:

…and the Vino Grande:

You’ll have to scroll sideways to see the various models. There are several over those collections that should fit the bill.

I believe that Tritan refers to the crystal itself, though Amazon seems to think differently.

I like the Cost Plus / World Market Connoisseur Zinfandel Glasses. German made for $6 before coupons/deals. Or any by Schott Zwiesel / Riedel.

I like Spiegelau too. I have the Spiegelau Adina Prestige white wine glasses and love them for their versatility. I use them for rose, champagne, lighter reds and of course whites. They are beautiful glasses. I don’t remember the name of the others, but I got all of them at TJ Maxx. The Adina retail for $80 for a set of 2 and found them for $4 a piece (I bought what they had which was 4, so $16 for 4 instead of $160!). The others were on clearance for $2 and they had 8. They have some incredible deals on nice glasses there. I buy almost all my Riedel/Spiegelau/Schott Zwiesel there. I saw some Zwiesel Pur Titan Burgandy glasses there on Sat. The only problem is I’m out of storage space for any more! Anyway, if you have a TJ Maxx/Marshalls/HomeGoods, check there for excellent glasses with inexpensive prices. These are the Adina which I like the best:

Jim: I really like the Riedel chianti/zin glass; very pretty on the table and about the right size. I own most of the glasses mentioned above and it is ridiculous over kill. I’m not a Spiegelau fan. My “go to’s” are various Burg glasses, but they can be clumsy. In fact, I broke one on Sunday night, the Vinum Burg. What a mess. The Crate and Barrel glasses are nice for the price.

Hey Jim,

If you have a friend in the restaurant business, I would ask for them to order you a 12 pack of the Riedel Degustazione, which offers a white wine glass (12 oz) and red wine glass (19 oz) options. I believe the pricing on that, without shipping/handling, would be under $40 for the 12 pack.

Thanks all.
Walt, got what I wanted for cheap - thanks.
Best, Jim

Sorry I didn’t notice this before. Sierra Trading often has sale prices on Riedel glasses and they have a 6 pack of the riesling/zin glass for a good price now:
