A long time ago they made a mistake in my favor with bdx futures shipping. I returned the extra shipment.
Did just now, and they said they didn’t respond to my email because they are looking into it. They said it could take a few days or a few weeks to piece together what happened (it is one of the busiest times of year for them).

When was that change?
Good job , you are on their radar now
the owners saw the business moving online earlier than most
That said, I still miss stick-figure Rhôneman pitching the juice.
This whole thread makes me love K&L even more. I really should be wasting more time on their site…
K&L is amazing and I love that I can pickup at their Hollywood location for free (easy transfer from their Main Warehouse).
Competitive pricing as well with a large and really good selection of wine.
Ask for Kyle of Tristen.
Just an update since I blasted Winex a bit in my OP…
After waiting a few weeks for Winex to get back to me, and some more phone tag, Wine Exchange still needed more time to get me a list of the wines they thought they sent me, but I was able to explain how I thought their records were wrong. They finally got me a recounting on 4/10.
Winex’s data showed that they sent me more wine than could fit in the total amount of slots they shipped. I checked my inventory again to make sure I wasn’t crazy, but fortunately I kept the packing slips they sent (which are just handwritten marks on order sheets). I also had screenshots of all of the shipment info. In the future, I’ll take photos of every box I open before, during, and after (I’ve done it with other orders, but just forgot with this one).
Wine Exchange ultimately sent me the two most expensive bottles that were missing on 4/16 after a few months of back and forth. I never tried to ask for the other 3 bottles I’m missing since they were under $60 total and I thought it would further muddy the waters. I’m happy that I was able to get at least some acknowledgement of an error on Winex’s part, though I don’t believe they ever directly apologized for messing up. I’m led to believe they think they did nothing wrong and are just placating me because I’ve ordered a decent amount of wine through them (small change overall, though).
The moral of the story, for me at least, is that I’m probably done ordering small bits and bobs from them. They have an electronic inventory management system that seems well managed, but the transfer of items to shipping is legit crazy, and the way they let you know certain items from bigger orders are in stock is haphazard at best. I’ll still consider them in the future due to good prices and a great reputation overall, but I’ll probably only do increments of 6 and/or 12 that can be sent all at once. It’s too bad, since great prices on higher-end wines was the reason I was shopping them in the first place. I guess I’ll just have to make more money
.
Thanks for the follow-up, I’m now dreading the return process after finding 2/3 bottles with depressed corks and 1 leaking wine through the capsule when pressed.
They are nice folks and were never combative, and I think they’re coming out of the shipping season insanity. Just make sure you document everything, and calling will result in somewhat faster response. I prefer email, though (at least in addition to a call), because I need a record of exactly what both parties say and when it was said.
Hold Til Ship (HTS) is one of the subtly harder activities for any fine wine retailer to handle properly.
Theyre saying they can only give me a store credit as a refund for the damaged goods, which annoys the hell out of me because I dont ever buy from them. Hoping to convince them otherwise, but that seems unlikely.
Still have not received my PLL 2019 ordered on pre-arrival. Winex is trying to argue tariffs causing a delay (give me a fucking break, these were ordered during Biden’s term) and wont’ even refund me the order unless I take a 20% hit or take store credit.
Winex can pound sand, what a bunch of crooks. Will never do business with them again after I sort out this bullshit.
Those are 3 years late.
