Importers can consolidate to the US through companies like Elenteny and USA.
That only gets the wines in position to sell the wines.
Then you need to go out and sell the wines on your own.
This is a time of declining wine consumption worldwide, especially bad for red wines.
It’s always important to remember that there at least one million different wines bottled for sale every year.
I was surprised and saddened to hear from locals that wine consumption especially among young population is on decline. I noticed that many Spaniards drink bear in restaurants. Similar thing I observed in France.
I suspect cost is a major issue. BTG is getting more and more costly, even in Europe. A beer is often 1/3 or 1/4 the price of a decent glass
I did not check beer prices but wine BTG was ridiculously cheap compared to the US. In Andalusia in all restaurants we have been to it varied from 3.50 to 4 Euro. In New York I don’t think you can find anything cheaper than $15-$18 any more. Granted wages and cost of living are much lower over there.
Of course varies by location and wine. I was just in Athens and a carafe of house made wine was 4 euro. Exceptions to every rule
Have ordered beer numerous times when even the mediocre wines start at 18/gl
