Wine collection insurance help......

I also have the Chartis coverage for everything. I have never had to make a wine claim, but I sleep better knowing I can. Chubb would not write a policy unless we consolidated all of our coverage. We actually did so, but then we wanted to add earthquake to the house. Chubb would not do it unless we did a major, earthquake specific retrofit while Chartis would, so we reconsolidated all coverage with them.

Per suggestion of others, I obtained a quote, plus further information about Marine Insurance Company, Ltd. (UK),
a subsidiary of Royal & Sun Alliance (UK). It would be roughly $0.75 per $100 coverage, per annum.

Chubb has enabled me to renew for less than $0.45 per $100 coverage, which I seem likely to accept. Thanks.

I go with DA CHUBB!

Cheaper rate, proven reputation for high-end service and no-quibble claim payments,
independently audited, US-domiciled capital reserves, and state guarantee-pool
participant. It seems to win on all counts.

How does Inventory, assessed Value, Breakage, updated consumed bottles work?

Yes Victor, Chubb is great. However in most cases Chubb will not insure people unless they consolidate ALL of their coverage with them, or in some cases (mine) they will not provide necessary coverage (earthquake insurance for our home). I had to bounce from Allstate to Chubb to AIG/Chartis to finally get good coverage. I am happy, and it was a good exercise, but it was an awful lot of effort to get a rider to cover some wine. If IYW had existed at the time I would have gone with that in a heartbeat for simplicity. For people who can’t or won’t get Chubb, Fireman’s or Chartis (the three names that consistently come up in all of these threads for the past 10 years) a rider with someone like IYW, maybe at a premium of an extra $100 or $200 a year, is a lot easier way to peace of mind.

And if they insure cooked wine you are golden!

I also started with a chubb stand alone wine policy but have consolidated everything to Chubb. Their rates were great and reputation as well. Plus, easy to deal with if you ever have a claim.

I’m also with Marine and payed .55 percent. Very easy to deal with and pretty comprehensive coverage.

Their rates are terrible in CA, at least for me; they want double what Mercury charges for home and auto insurance. I go with insureyourwine.com.

I used to be with Thomas and Pratt. For some reason they switched to:

Victoria France
Managing Director Fine Art Division
Robertson Taylor (CA) Inc.
15260 Ventura Blvd.
Suite 2230
Sherman Oaks
CA 91403

I can only speak from the getting insured side. They wanted to see photos of the setup and my current inventory. Was pretty affordable. I have yet to place a claim with them however. I learned about them from a book called Keys to the Cellar.
