Wine classes in NY?

My daughter would like to expand her knowledge and appreciation of wine. She lives in Brooklyn and asked me to post a question — anyone have suggestions on good classes in NY? She is especially interested in Italian wines.
Thanks for any help.

Is she looking for something casual or formal? There are gazillions of options, it is NYC…

Astor Center does a bunch of cool stuff, most colleges have something going on in their adult ed/continuing ed stuff, and she can just “tasting hop” stores all over Manhattan and Brooklyn for free, most stores have email lists, Twitter, and Facebook presence now to get the info…

Morrell also has wine tastings (click HERE). There’s also the Windows on the World Wine School, or for something more involved there’s the International Wine Center, which is a branch of the WSET.

Thanks for the suggestions.
I think she is looking for “casual” not WSET-type.
She picked up the wine bug from me - we have gone to tastings together, etc.

Ted,

If that’s the case, tell her to pick up some books and bottles and do something casual with friends at home. It’ll be cheaper than classes by a long shot.

Good suggestion - I’ll tell her to invite you grouphug

She is a great cook - maybe host an offline.

Ted

Where in Brooklyn does she live? I live in Brooklyn. I had a friend who did classes at one of the stores. He wrote one of the textbooks for sommeliers but I don’t know if he’s still doing the classes. There are a few others that have less structured things.

She lives in Lefferts Gardens.
