Wine Berserkers Weekly Burgundy Appellation Tasting Series (Part Two)

Last year, we did a short weekly tasting series for the various appellations of the Côte d’Or. Each week, we visited another village, and went from North to South. Here is an example WB Burgundy Appellation Weekly Tasting - Week 2: Gevrey-Chambertin (including Brochon) - WINE TALK - WineBerserkers We had a sizable amount of contributions. Though, I think that we can do better this time around. What I would like to do is to try the Côte d’Or again with a few small changes, one of which is to have Grands Crus separated away from the villages and their Premiers Crus. Another addition would be to add a bunch of photos. I could help in this. While everyone will have their own way of looking at Burgundy, once some of these places are highlight in photos, they are easier to imagine and mentally piece together. Taking photos of the soil would be of interest as well. To have this, along with notes from a large pool of members here would be education, if not a nice way to share perspectives.

After we wrap on the region, we can take a look at Chablis, if there is significant interest.

So…anyone interested?

Cheers,

I’m interested. I enjoyed last years series…quite educational. The photo addition is a good one, but I don’t seem to be able to get photos added to a post. Any suggestions?

I’d be interested.

Focusing heavily on Burgundy right now.

Count me in, Ray.

Might have some photos to add if I can figure out how to do it.

Might also be interesting to have photos of winemakers, though I guess that could be a little invasive without asking their permission first (I guess I still live in a Facebook-free world).

Chablis!! I’ll join for this.
For the red burgs, as I have few GCs, I’m all for focusing on villages and 1er cru.

If I could ask this of contributors, something that would be a great addition is a growing list of producers in each village that are either traditional/modern/mixed, who has added or lost vineyard holdings, who has struggled versus those who have improved, etc.

In other words, there are always those interested in learning about Burgundy, lets make a cheat sheet, for them and for us. I know that I can get in my grooves of tasting and ‘forget’ about tasting some wines. This would be a great way to increase the experience of many on this board…myself included.

As an aside, we can have a sort of a FAQ thread for Burgundy, could be a nice thing to have.

i’m in too…perfect timing since I want to get back to learning about Burgundy. Any chance we can include the cote de beaune communes?

The idea of a cheet sheet based on similar producers and styles. I would find that secret decoder ring invaluable. Look forward to reading the debates about who goes under what bucket though [stirthepothal.gif]

OK, let’s start. [cheers.gif]

#1. Nuits-St-Georges. Maison Ilan. Traditional. No holdings (yet?), recent fruit additions. I’ve heard “they” make some killer wines, can’t wait to try them… flirtysmile

I’m in also. Sound like great suggestions.

Great idea. the last one was educational enough, and this one should be better. Another vote for including Chablis.

Always keen on further excuses to pop some decent booze…I’m in!!!

I may have some photos of Burgundy soils, Bdx as well…will have to go through my old files and see.

Im in, but we should continue on after CdB and do 2009 Beaujolais.

Great idea to renew the Burg Series, Ray. I’m not sure what you mean by separating grand crus from the villages. How would that work?

My condolences, Kim.

Not only am I going to vote YES on this, I will, as the forum founder and administrator, COMMAND IT!

I will ban you if you don’t do it, Ray.

I vote yes, but let’s publish a full schedule well in advance to give us time, and maybe drink over two weekends. Sadly, some of us have to source many of the wines, sigh.

Never heard of them before, sounds like a tacky operation… [cheers.gif] On the photos of producers, they may be shy. We could find out for a few though.

We’ll be sure to include Chablis!

Any photos would be appreciated, thanks.

Hey Berry, great idea. We can do Beaujolais after CDB and then on to Chablis.

Hey Lew, thinking of it further, it would be nice to just add the Grands Crus into the village it is typically associated with. Since these are opened less, there would be less notes and perhaps less responses. So, we will do it similar to how it was done the first go around, perhaps with a slight modification if a better idea presents itself.

Alright then, lets make a run of it. Lets start Monday, Feb 7th! Are you going to post some notes this time?? neener

We can get a new appellation up each Monday (I’ll make sure of it this time).

Todd, is it possible to keep the outgoing week’s appellation thread open beneath the current thread for late additions/reflections? This would take up a little more space, but the reflections could be beneficial.

If there are any suggestions on how to do things better, I’m all ears.

[cheers.gif]

Hey Brady, great idea.

I will work on that now…

I get it, Todd…a ray-ban… [training.gif]
