I have to second the sauterne mention. It’s the time of year when I serve apple pie or crisp with a sauterne after dinner. Many like vanilla ice cream with apple pie ( I don’t) and raved about the ice cream-sticky pairing. I tried it and was pleasantly surprised.
Way back when, the Wine House in Los Angeles did a wine and junk food tasting every April 1. One year, they matched 1980 d’Yquem with 31 Flavors French vanilla ice cream, and it was wonderful.
