Wine and vanilla ice cream

Apparently a social media trend that I missed. One of the Swedish cooking shows I follow decided to try it, chef being very skeptical, but he had to reluctantly admit it works really well…

I had dinner with a client that loved red wine paired with vanilla ice cream. I learned that at a dinner where I brought a 2000 Lynch Bages. Next time I bring a Caymus…

Jannamico Super Punch over vanilla ice cream is the bomb. I’m sure any kinda licorice-y dark amaro over ice cream could work.

I have to second the sauterne mention. It’s the time of year when I serve apple pie or crisp with a sauterne after dinner. Many like vanilla ice cream with apple pie ( I don’t) and raved about the ice cream-sticky pairing. I tried it and was pleasantly surprised.

Way back when, the Wine House in Los Angeles did a wine and junk food tasting every April 1. One year, they matched 1980 d’Yquem with 31 Flavors French vanilla ice cream, and it was wonderful.

FYI the kirkland super premium vanilla ice cream is insanely good if you can handle how creamy it is.

Best wine pairing for vanilla ice cream is a big jammy 16% Australian Shiraz ooze-monster.
Pour it over the ice cream, do not sip it alongside.

The best pairing for vanilla ice cream is in fact Rutherglen Muscat.

Until you have tried it, you don’t any idea of the perfect wine and foid pairing!

My go to with vanilla ice cream is PX too, but Rutherglen sounds equally good. I don’t think it’s sold widely, perhaps except in Australia though.
