Wine and Food with Friends ('99 Pol Roger SWC, '66 Cos, '81 LDH) and pics

Got together with some friends for dinner and wines this weekend. I took some pics, so I figured I share.
Not really TNs on these wines, just quick thoughts and pics.

1999 Pol Roger Sir Winston Churchill…my bottle, so I’m biased, perhaps, but I thought it was pretty damn good. Young. But beginning to show some creaminess. Tight bubbles, yeasty, sweet-honey like at times. Long finish.

1981 LDH Vina Tondonia Blanco…good bottle if you like the style. Better than the last '81 we had. Oxidative, nutty, waxy, buttery, and herbal. Slightly funky. Good stuff.

2011 Olivier De Moor Chablis Bel-Air et Clardy…Second time with this stuff and I’m a fan. Great acidity. Lively. Fresh. Great value.

1966 Cos D’ Estournel…Great showing. Aged Bordeaux drinking well. Still some fruit, leather, tobacco, forest floor. Tasty.

2011 Clos Roche Blanche Gamay…This stuff. This is the stuff. For like $30!? All day long. Herbal, wiry red fruit, agile, acidity. Yum. Need more.
There was more wine, including a great champagne from Bereche.
Some food pics:

Crostini with pimento cheese, spicy pickles (using Joel W’s farmer’s spicy pickle recipe), pork belly.

Fried Chicken.

What’s that? You say you want that fried chicken hot and spicy?

Octopus on Big Green Egg. Served later with simple lemon juice, red onion, caper dressing. Yum.

Lobster and squid paella done on BGE.

No pics of the blueberry and cherry cobbler, done in cast iron on the Big Green Egg. It was good.
Good times. [cheers.gif]

Looks delish! The wines sound good too. (correct the post to “66 Cos” though… ).

66 Cos en magnum consumed in April was very good.

I have not had a good Paella in a long time, yours looks tasty.

Nice selection Dennis, I like that LdH white. The food looks great.
Best Regards
Jeremy

Food looks yummy!

Thanks, guys.
Only dish I can take credit for is the crostini.
Good to have friends who can cook!

Well, the crostini looks quite good.

I love the 1999 Winston Churchill. I (stupidly) only bought one bottle.

Thanks!
Recent reloads from PC have been helpful in this…

Had the SWC 99 last november and the sweet-honey was a bit to much for me at the time do you think the sweet-ness will settle with time? And great with Cos 66 hitting:-)

Interesting mix of wines. Looks fun!

Yup. That’s me too, with the dunce cap on. Thanks for the peek in, Dennis. I’ll keep my one for a while longer.

The food looks amazing.

Amazing food. Could’ve used a sweet wine in there, though.

Yes. With some air it receded a bit and was really not bothersome, to me anyway. But the wine could use a little time, for sure.

Thanks, Neal.

Thanks. I headed out a little early, there probably was some later…Or moonshine (how we do in the south) [cheers.gif]
