Alcohol and Flagyl- definite relationship (accidental personal experience and from patients).
Quinolones and Tendon rupture: no personal experience and I use a lot. But my GP had a case who sued him.

evidently it is an increase in incidence from 1 per 100,000 to 3 per 100,000 from what I have just read.

I’ve been associated with 3 cases, but never in a patient where I have been the prescriber. Far more common are tendinitis symptoms without rupture.
Ditto for me.

My wife ended up having tendon release surgery in her elbow. She blames the Cipro; I have better sense than to question her
Unless you’re at Paulee (or another one of a kind event), why not be conservative and just wait it out a week?
I thought when I first looked this was a thread on Flagey-Echézeaux
Barry why test the Dr recc? be patient and wait
Barry,
I was on Cipro for a week a couple of years ago–was too damn ill to think about drinking wine. And yes, I did injure my achilles shortly thereafter.
Andrea says to stay far away from alcohol if you are taking Flagyl.

Have more than one Dr. involved and got different responses. Believe me, I’m not going to mix the two.
Disappointed to read this, I’m on a ten day course and come off just before the weekend, looks like another dry one coming up…
Anecdotally let me assure you folks get nauseated and vomit from this combo.
I’ve the same experience.
I also prescribe cipro frequently and have never seen it. It is the best oral medication (IMHO) for gut and urinary bacteria; with flagyl for the gut to cover the anerobic bacteria. Especially with those allergic to sulfa or penicillins. Not taking it because of worry of tendon rupture, it you need it, is akin to anti-vaccination.
This is not a medical discussion board, but what the heck. I’ve used my share of cipro and other Quinolones over time, and I’ve become more impressed that tendon problems are likely under-reported, particularly tendinopathy and partial ruptures. Your sense of the frequency of these complications may vary by specialty. Not intending to cast any aspersions at all, but if you’re a specialist and you treat a problem (say prostatitis, or diverticulitis), a tendinopathy that shows up 1-2 months later may get treated by a primary care doc or a different specialist entirely and never get back to you.
Well, it is becoming a wine discussion board with a minor in Cipro chat. It was just being discussed on this other thread
Prescribed Cipro twice and both times(2nd time I did not remember the bad reaction) had tendon tears and also a vitreous detachment resulting in bad floaters. Internal medicine doc advised me to never use Cipro again.
