Willi Schaefer 2011 - do they reflect the winery's singular style?

I’m a big fan of Willi Schaefer’s wines. I’ve always loved their high acid, almost green apple jolly rancher style. Their wines are usually unmistakably theirs.

I recently had a 2011 Willi Schaefer Graacher Domprobst Kabinett and, while it was certainly well made, it didn’t have that acidic, almost pleasantly tart, oomph that their wines usually have, even in lower acid years.

This was the first WS 2011 that I’ve tried. Does anyone else have any thoughts on the collection?

Welcome to 2011. You cannot manufacture what was not there. 2011 was soft, though the wines are still very tasty.

Mat, they are light as you describe. They are also tasty as David describes. I think they are beautiful and I love the collection. While certainly lighter than some recent vintages, I felt that some of the 2011 WS wines put on a little weight with a day or so in the bottle after being opened.

I’ve had so many Schaefer wines from soft vintages, and all of them have seen their day in the sun given enough time.
