Will anyone buy 2016 Monprivato?

Saw an offer online from a LWS where I buy a good amount of wine from - $249.99

Easy pass, I rather backfill

I rated the Monprivato 2012 18,5/20 (great wine) in a huge G. Mascarello’s verticale in 2016.
18/20 for the Monprivato 2011.
18/20+ for the Monprivato 2010.
18,5/19 for the Monprivato 2009.

2014 is a weak vintage in Barolo.

I did not buy the Monprivato 2016 (160 euros).
Wish I could taste it and also the Ca d’Morissio 2016 (much more expensive).

What about 2103 Monprivato, a supposedly strong vintage in the Langhe.

You mean 2013 ? [wow.gif]
Not tasted (the last vintage I had at the domain was an excellent 2011 (17,5/20) in november 2015).

To be more explicit for the verticale (7 unanimous raters) :
_4. Giuseppe Mascarello : Barolo “Monprivato” 2012
DS17,5/18 - PR18+ - LG18,5 - MS18 - FM17,5 - AA18+ - MF17,5

[oops.gif] Yeah, 2013

The price jump in 2016 seems abrupt as WS Pro prices for prior vintages of Monprivato (2011- 2015) average around $150. Them boom, 2016 = $250. I guess it just a 2016 Barolo thing?

 ugghhh

I guess other people have a different take, all sold out within a day (24 hours)

Not really sad that I did not order, lots of other great barolo out there.

I got my bottles for 190. Stockpiling 2016 barolo

Our Wholesale price here in CT is up 33% from the 2015 price. 2016 will cost $183 to the trade

I bought the 2006, 2008, 2010, & 2013. Of them all the 2010 & 2013 were brilliant on every occasion I’ve opened them. The 2013 was the hit of a blind tasting, and I think they’re both great vintages of this wine. I’m not a buyer of the 2016 anywhere near the $200+ range. I paid $149 for my 2013’s and if I can find the 2016 close to that price
then I may buy it. I’ve got enough that I’m not going to feel crushed if it’s above my price range. There are enough great wines out there that cost far less than this.

Saw another $250 offer on this today (K&L), uugghh.

Looking for someone who has tried it! FYI you can buy in UK delivered to US for ~$175.

I bought one in New York, was supposed to arrive in November, but was pushed back to mid December. Seems it hasn’t arrived yet in U.S.? Whenever I get it, will post a note

All ears on this idea if you’d like to share

No secret. Go on winesearcher, email any retailer and preferably pick one who ships to US directly without your having to make arrangmenets through 3rd party carrier (which is also easy enough to do). Generally barolo has been fine to buy in US , with the higher end getting bigger premiums in UK than here
but Monprivato for whatever reason is cheaper in UK than US.

Spoke too soon, sold out @250 at K&L, I guess there are lots of buyers.

I did, but I live in the UK, would probably pass at $250, when a lot of good Barolo is out there at $60-80.

So sad, right? It was one of the pieces I was most proud of prior to Vinous. Also sorry it took me so long to see this. I reposted the article here: The V.I.P. Table: Following Monprivato Through the Ages

I just need to add back in more of the photos as I locate them.
