Have heard that Moet & Chandon has stopped making White Star. Is this true? Also, WHY would you want to mess with a product that has such massive brand recognition? People who drink White Star, LOVE White Star.
Veronica,
They haven’t stopped making it - they just renamed it to better fit in with the rest of the range. It is now called “Imperial”. Same wine as White Star.
This happend over a year ago.
Veronica- I TOTALLY agree, dumb move. I have had a ton of irate customers over this. I try to politely remind them I don’t work for LVMH. ![]()
They also did away with the Brut after they bought Clicquot. Again, I can understand getting of your own way with marketing, but they lost a few customers over this.
Hi Brad,
Thanks. We carry Imperial and it now sits in the same spot where we had WS. Same price and same look on the bottle as White Star. But that still has me puzzled.
how is the imperial selling vs the former label? i intentionally upped inventory on WS a while back to put this off but am curretnly transitioning to the imperial label, i’m curious to see how it goes. i tasted imperial for the first time thurs nite and it was pretty yummy, i do know there is more reserve wine making it into the final blend than WS had…
Hi Steve,
I do not know the numbers, but will find out. For the most part, the transition has been fairly seamless. The two bottles look very similar, and same price. Could be wrong, but I believe we transitioned in August, and I didn’t even notice until a few weeks ago. But once WS drinkers hear that WS is no longer, they are deeply disappointed. I hope they have the horse-sense to bring back “Be Fabulous” for the holidays. That sold like crazy.
I just went to Costco this week and saw a whole embankment of WS. ![]()
Ian,
They didn’t really get rid of the Brut Imperial - they just almost completely stopped shipping it to the US. I don’t know how hard it is to get it here or what LVMH’s official stance is, but occasionally someone gets a batch through. Agreed that this was a strange move as the NVs from Clicquot and Moet are quite different.
Interesting, I got the line from my wholesaler they did away with it. Clearly, just not shipping in NJ.
Agreed that they are 2 different products, but there is a smart aspect of it too. Foster’s is having issues with inventory b/c they have too many brands that are way too similar. I’m sure several other conglomerates are facing similar issues.
