White Burgundy Tasting Group

Cool, lets shot for 27th, 7 pm…

Any suggestions for a location?

According to Open Table, the following places are BYO friendly AND have room for 6 people on the 27th at 7:30 pm:

Klee
Beacon
Aureole
Kellari Taverna
Match 65
Bistro Chat Noir
AOC

I’ve wanted to go to Aureole for quite some time so that is my first vote. Second would be AOC, especially the Garden. I’m good with everything else except Kellari.

So it looks like things are coming together. What I need to do now is confirm who is in for Wednesday the 27th. I will PM each of you to confirm. We need to get a proper head count asap though as I plan to contact some restaurants Wednesday to make the reservation. As of now here is what it looks like:

Confirmed
Me (and possibly my wife Rhonda) - Champagne to start
Leo - horizontal of '04 Jadot’s
Jorge
Marisa
Thomas

6 people and about 10 bottles should be perfect and it looks like Leo will be supplying a majority. I’m getting excited so let’s make this happen [drinkers.gif]

I was semi kidding on the Cali chard as a ringer (which, since you revealed, is not really a ringer any longer neener ). I can bring a Champagne to start or something to finish with. I did stumble unto a young-ish but very capable 1er Cru C-M over the weekend that I can save for another month.

Sorry guys, I just learned that a friend is in for London next week and wants to meet for dinner on the 27th. I’ll have to bow out of this one but would like to catch the next one.

Eric

Hi All,

I’d love to attend on the 27th. I researched the restaurants (thanks Jorge for putting that together and checking availability!) and I would love to go to Aureole but it’s out of my price range. My order of preference is AOC (though there are some nasty reviews, Stu you’ve been there?), Beacon, Match 65. I’m fine missing this dinner if the group decides on Aureole.

Leo, thanks for your incredible generosity. I would like to contribute something, a red?

Tom

Folks,
Love the theme, and would love to attend the next event. This event coincides with the Willet House Dan Posner wine event on the 28th.

Mike

Okay, so I called about 20 restaurants today and the options are pretty limited. Although Jorge mentioned some great places that are BYO, it is BYO but with a serious a corkage fee. $50 per bottle is not going to work. So I narrowed it down to the following places and booked a reservation at each. I listed them in order of what I think would be best, but everyone please weigh in accordingly.

1: Apiary - NO corkage fee … on Monday nights. This would be the best option and I booked an 8pm slot for Monday May 2nd. They are very accommodating to wine groups and no BYO fee is huge.

2: A.O.C. - No corkage for the first two bottles, but $25 for every additional one. I figure that we will probably go through about 8 bottles or so for a party of 6, so that would essentially work out to an extra $25 per person on top of dinner. Which isn’t really a bad deal. We can do Wednesday the 27th at 7:15p.

3: Union Square Cafe: $20 per bottle. Another wine friendly place and with about 8 bottles it shouldn’t be that bad (at least in comparison to AOC). I currently have 6:30 on the 27th booked but they will let me know if something opens up later.

There is one other free BYO place that I have a call into but they are a small place so chances are slim. Let me know everyone’s thoughts. Since my wife will most likely join, I will be paying for two heads, so the no corkage at Apiary on a Monday is my vote.

Stu

Have yet to go to Apiary, so interested in that one. For $25/bottle, AOC is not really that worthwhile. Another option could also be:

La Sirene (no corkage any day; cash only)

Also, the Managing Partner of this restaurant (http://www.tolaninyc.com/about.php) is a friend. I could call/email him and inquire about dinner there. He’s a wino as well and could surely be “buttered up” with a glass or two.

Let me know soon though.

I agree on AOC and USC with the corkage which is why I think Apiary on Monday is great. I was there about a year or so ago and the food was pretty good. Again, no corkage will save a lot of money.

I have a call into La Sirene. That was the other place I mentioned. Hopefully they can accomodate us on such short notice.

Let’s keep your buddy at Tolani on hold for now. We can play that card if we have to

Great news everyone. I just heard back from La Sirene and we are good to go on Wednesday the 27th at 7pm. There is no corkage fee, the only stipulation is that it’s cash only, so be prepared.

I’m throwing down the hammer and saying that is the venue. Everyone agree?

Here is the website. http://www.lasirenenyc.com/directions.html

If you haven’t already done so, please confirm so that I can get an accurate headcount. RIght now it’s:

Me + 1 (Rhonda) - Champagne
Leo - Jadot for everyone
Jorge
Marisa
Thomas

Maybe:
Mike - you weren’t clear in your post. Let me know if your in for this dinner on April 27th

Sounds good. So what about my offer for Champagne? Or something for dessert?

Looks good, nice find. Are we all whites or shall I bring a red?

Sorry Stu, will try and make the next one

Final confirmation everyone. Dinner is on Wednesday 4/27 at La Sirene in west village at 7pm. Leo is bringing 7-8 bottles of Jadot and I am bringing a bottle of Champagne. If anyone want’s to bring another apertiff or desert wine, that is great, but Leo will be supplying the wines for tasting. This event has turned into a premier/grand cru Jadot tasting courtesy of Leo.

So no need to worry about bringing anything etc. Should be a lot of fun. See everyone on Wednesday. Here is the final list

Me + 1 (Rhonda)
Leo
Jorge
Marisa
Thomas

Do we need to bring stems?

Bringing sweet wine.

They said they have plenty of stems. Quality I don’t know.

Hi All,

Great time last night and it was a pleasure meeting you all! I thought the restaurant was good too. Looking forward to next time.

Thanks,
Tom
