White Burgundy (Coche, Ente, PYCM, Grivault...)

I feel I start to be addicted to white Burgundy… and the good news is that around me I’m not the only one!

First flight was Aligoté, started with a very strong Arnaud Ente that completely overshadowed the Coche… Did something go wrong with Coche in 2013?

2010 Arnaud Ente Bourgogne-Aligoté
Very mineral, green apple, yellow straw, cutted grass… Very light and delicate at the start, laser sharp, tres tendu, very mineral… gaining power and lenght with aeration, I just can’t believe that this is an Aligoté!! (92 points)

2013 Coche-Dury Bourgogne-Aligoté
Very citrus nose, mineral, hint of grilled hazelnut, green apple… quite powerful at opening, green apple, citrus… The wine went down after one hour aeration to a diluted citrus juice, I don’t know what went wrong with the wine, but it was very dissapointed for a Coche… not the first 2013 coche that dissapoints… (89 points)

Followed by a second flight of satellite appellations, where the 1er Crus can be very solid and even sometimes beat village wines from great appellations like Chassagne or Meursault!

2013 Domaine Belleville Rully 1er Cru La Pucelle
Nose of yellow straw, yellow apple, mineral… very citrus taste, hint of mineral, apple (92 points)

2014 Gerard Thomas Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Murgers des Dents de Chien
Very powerful nose of apple, citrus, mineral, hint of smoke… Sappy acidity, loads of citrus mixed up with ripe fruit, lenght of 20 sec (92 points)

Two great producers and great wines… But with no surprizes, the PYCM showed much better than the Clos des Perrières… even if it was Village against Grand Cru level… That tells a lot about the talent of PYCM!!

2011 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Chassagne-Montrachet Les Ancegnières
Wow, nose of grilled hazelnut, smoke, ripe yellow apple, very smooth and creamy… super refine acidity and long aftertaste, great great wine!! (94 points)
2013 Albert Grivault Meursault 1er Cru Clos des Perrières
Huge nose of mineral, fat apple, hint of flintstone, matchstick… very sharp, sappy green apple, super mineral, great tension, 30 sec lenght!! (93 points)

Now the big boys, the older Coche didn’t dissapoint, even in front of a powerful Batard!

2011 Coche-Dury Meursault
Nose of smoke, grilled hazelnut, citrus, oysters… Loads of citrus, yellow ripe apple, great tension, length of 30 sec! (95 points)

2008 Domaine Bachelet-Monnot Bâtard-Montrachet
Average nose of cutted grass, citrus, mineral, … Very powerful length of 30 sec, citrus, oyster, green apple, taste very powerful, but lacking the finesse of the Coche (94 points)

Finishing with two nice blind pirates lined-up at the end of the tasting…

2012 Château Lynch-Bages Blanc de Lynch-Bages
Nose of buis, hint of green apple, missing the smoke of a Pessac Léognan… Taste a bit too sweet and lacking the sharpness of a Pessac. Nice label, but not a great wine… (89 points)

2013 Michel Bouzereau Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières
Ligt nose of cutted grass, hint of smoke, hint of apple… Nice tension, citrus, minerality (91 points)

I don’t know about the rest of the Coche wines in 2013 but that Aligote was indeed highly disappointing.
