Are premature advancement and/or bottle flaws a thing for Vollenweider? I just bought a handful of 23s.
Not that I have experienced and I have been drinking them since the beginning.

Not that I have seen (back to the 2001 vintage) barring a just poor cork, but that happens sometimes to any estate.

I had the good fortune of getting hold of a case of 2012 Vollenweider Wolfer Goldgrube kabinett recently in an auction. Of the 3 bottles I’ve opened so far 2 of the corks were extremely crumbling and hard to remove, I feared the worst but in all three bottles the wine was in perfect condition, fresh and glorious

I feel like you might be trolling me, but on this we can agree.
Opened a 2021 A.J. Adam Auktion (Hofberg?) Kabi a few months ago at our wine group and the cork was unbelievably advanced/moldy/crumbly. Thankfully the wine was fantastic, but we were all shocked such a young bottle had such a yucky cork. Definitely makes me nervous about my other A.J. Adam bottles.
2016 Domaine Valentin Zusslin Riesling Clos Liebenberg - France, Alsace (6/17/2026)
– popped and poured –
– tasted non-blind over approx. 2 hrs in a restaurant setting –
NOSE: smells moderately aged; spicy — oak.
BODY: medium-light body; moderately aged maize color.
TASTE: high acidity; yellow fruits, which hang around mostly on the front palate; minerals and light fruit on the finish tastes fairly aged; quite frankly, tastes like aged Muscadet. Not bad, but not exciting, either. This was much more advanced than I was expecting. Recent purchase – attractive price, with some bottle age – but I wouldn’t rebuy.

FWIW I work somewhere where we offer AJ Adam btg and have had no issues as far as corks go.

Hmm, I opened a bottle of this about 22 months ago, and the cork was fine and the wine young and tight but still delicious.
I noted this exact phenomenon with a bottle of the 2020 A.J. Adam Hofberg Kabinett Auction. Wine inside was fine but definitely odd.
I’m such a Bordeaux fanboi, but I have to admit Riesling offers the best bargains in the world right now when it comes to dry white wine.

No photo taken, but last night’s 2019 Battenfeld Spanier Mölsheim trocken was just delicious. Yellow fruit, spice, herbs and a touch of jalapeño. Electric acidity. These have been delicious from the get go.

I’ve recently visited the winery and tasted through their 24s. I liked their wine, but their price isn’t too competitive so I’m not a buyer in quantity. That said, I tend to like barrel aged Riesling more so it may be a preference thing. I like the saline quality which I find in most of their top dry wine, though!
I know some will say that Felsenberg is lesser, but this wine delivers every time for me - 5 very consistent bottles so far over 3 years. Love Dönnhoff.
Fragrant nose of pure lemon and sugary lemon and some kind of white or yellow flower. Has filled out with a hint of dry honey on the mid palate but has the core of tart perfumed lemon fruit. Gunpowder and smoke as it sits in the glass. Hint of grapefruit on the long, lingering, salty finish. So perfumed and floral in the mouth. 95.

I agree, but I’d put Chenin in the same category.
2022 Weiser-Künstler Wolfer Sonnenlay Kabinett last night… glorious! very young but so much fun to drink already… Weiser-Künstler manage to get more racy tension and acid from the 2022 vintage than many makers did in 2021!

I think Falkenstein ruined riesling for me.
Last night I had a 2007 Prum GH Auslese and a 2012 Schaefer GD Spatlese and all I wanted was some Falkenstein. Or maybe Im just moving away from sweet wines and need to explore more dry or slightly off dry bottles.
