Just checking here to say I attended @Robert_Dentice’s event last night in Philly, and wow what a great time with some amazing Rieslings and equally wonderful and generous guests. I took no pics and no notes, but a couple highlights of the night from memory
2014 Keller hipping GG - this was extraordinary, nose was stacked with tropicals, citrus, herbs - was like it had every note, and the palate was equally complex and ridiculously long. Wotn and many thanks to the generous guy next to me who let me try multiple pours
2015 - Julian Haart Schubertslay - Robert poured this for me and informed me that this parcel now belongs to kp keller. This had a very distinct lemon curd/lemon cream note with such a rich texture. My first wine from this vineyard and I can see why it is so revered
2021 Egon muller schwarzhof - my bring, this was an ideal young kabi for me. Perfect acid to cut through the fruit, textural but still lithe, a balancing act that only the Mosel can achieve.
There were so many more great wines that were poured throughout the night along with fantastic food. A spicy Italian hoagie and young kabinett is my top pairing of 26 thus far lol. I hope to attend this event every year (as long as the eagles aren’t in the Super Bowl )
Many thanks to Robert for all he does to put these events on!
Opened a 2015 Hain Piesporter Goldtropfchen Kabinett to go with buffalo wings last night. Tropical fruit and salted caramel, rich and weighty but lacking acidity to balance it out.
2016 Keller Hubacker from Magnum - Perfect example of a German GG. Excellent all around. Vibrant. Energetic. Depth. Emotion. Structured but still light. Wonderful bottle that is in a great place.
2013 Vollenweider Schimbock Spatlese - After hearing Julian Haart wax poetically about what a great and underrated winemaker Daniel Vollenweider (RIP) was at lunch I grabbed this from the cellar on my way out. Wowser! I think it was my wine of the night. So much 2013 electricity! A perfect Spatlese fopr me.
2022 Stein Himmelreich Feinherb - This is like seeing an old friend. I absolutely love this wine. It just never disappoints.
Overall a great event with a nice combination of experienced Riesling collectors / drinkers and new to wine guests. Pizza Beddia always does an outstanding job.
Not sure. @Rodrigo_B was one of the organizers. It was extremely well done, thorough and a truly amazing experience. Maybe he can answer your question.
The idea was to do all red label kabinetts and trockens Julian has made. Though we ended with the 2022 vintage to make tasting everything somewhat manageable
I worked out the rough serving order and sent it to Julian for inputs. I felt chronological order would be the best. I’ll do a proper write up on all three events, but tasting the wines and talking to Julian you really do get to see the progression in his winemaking journey. You can see Julian’s preferred style emerging and the wines getting better and better over the years.
19-21 Julian only made white label and/or Wurzelecht Ohligsberg kabinetts, so we served those. And in 21 he made a Reserve white label Ohligsberg trocken which we also served
It was a great undertaking. Thank you so much! I really learned a lot. It was so wonderful to have Julian present which as you know is not easy to get him to leave the vineyards. WELL DONE!!!
Yeah. With Wittmann at least to (my guessing?) being highly regarded I though that it’s unusual that to not read more about them here but maybe it’s supply and excitement related.
Been quite impressed by Seehof so now I’m thing/curious about doing a comparison between the two of them not sure I’ll by a GG, but the 1ste you had in the same vintage could be fun
NOSE: tertiary; slightly oxidized kumquat, persimmon, and orange oil.
BODY: medium-dark amber color; full bodied.
TASTE: tertiary; medium to medium+ acidity; kumquat, persimmon, and baked carrots; oaky/malty like a Highland whisky; light woodsy spice; mature, but not yet tried; orange marmalade; 9% abv. is hidden; in its prime window. Excellent! Drink Now.
I love the orange marmalade quality — when it’s accompanied by sufficient acidity. Whatever flavor profile comes after orange marmalade in the ageing progression – that’s where I typically start to feel “past peak,” but I rarely have the patience and/or backfilling acumen to get there. This '05 Karthauserhof is definitely ready to go right now. Frustratingly, CT says I have another bottle at home, but I’m pretty sure I don’t – so that’s in line for the unfortunate Missing Presumed Drunk designation.
NOSE: Moderately expressive on the Nose, with a crisp and cool presentation, featuring aromas of green grapes and green pear.
BODY: light bodied; pale green-yellow color.
TASTE: wwwwow! very high acidity; gooseberry, lime, and hint of raspberry. Awesome! Fuzzy electric palate presence! 10% abv. not noticeable; last had this 3 years ago, and it has opened considerably since that time. Excellent. I like this more than the 2020, which I had just a bit more than a month ago. Great wine. Drink or Hold.
Typical Grunhaus. Typical Herrenberg. Love it! Great acidity; green grapes and gooseberry flavor. Kabinett+ sense of sweetness; juicy; Sweet Tarts candy flavor, with zippy palate presence. A touch salty, surprisingly. Still great on Day 4. 7.5% alc. not noticeable. Great wine!

Auction purchase. A scoopable sponge of a soaked cork at the top. Remarkably, the rest of the cork could be pulled with a key alone. I wish I could say that there is no hint of a reaction. Luckily for me, while I recognize it the toasty toasty caramel, a nutty sweetness, a full palate overpower. A wounded warrior, no less a gem.
