Which Nebbiolo are you drinking?

I had another 2016 of this a couple of months ago @Kent_Comley and it was looking great. And it barely budged across a week of going in and out of the fridge to check in how it was developing.

2020 AR.PE.PE Rosso di Valtellina

Drank a week ago and missed scribbling down any notes unfortunately.
PnP - light and delicate, at first, with air this sort of reminded me of the janitor/clear guy chocking massive big blocks lifting their heavy weights with ease. It really builds up and gets very serious, tannic like what you’d expect from a Barolo. Thought it was related to something I ate first, three days in, it was still very solid (I liked it, very good!)

Guess vintage related as well and the vines are now probably quite old.

Good to know Will. I do like 16s but I was shocked to see the current vintage is $A120/bot these days, which prices it at Barolo level!

2016 Giuseppe Cortese Barbaresco RabajĂ : A calm and understated wine of savoury nuance. A hint of nuttiness and plenty of earth. delightful violets and rose petal florals. Red cherry fruit that has a crunchy edge. Mid-weight and beautifully balanced. Great acid drive and an expansive finish. Engaging now but plenty left in the tank

2019 Fontanabianca Barbaresco Bordini

There might be something behind that structural wall, that remain impenetrable during the course of the day. I would wait for at least 10 years to open another bottle.

I opened an '11 Cappellano Pie Rupestris tonight. Lovely wine, but it is fully mature. Though it did do that nebbiolo thing where it got less oxidative with more air. I have one bottle left and I will drink it this year while it’s still so enjoyable.

both drinking young and in the zone. the Montestefano had more power and the Asili more delicate.
We drank these with BBQ brisket and ribs

2020 Vietti Langhe Nebbiolo Perbacco - Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Langhe DOC (4/21/2026)
This wine is tremendous! I’m really lovin these type wines of late…bright translucent cherry bombs, with laser precision, sneaky elegance, dusty spicy Italian tannins galore! Nose a little shy…but this is a thing of BEAUTY for the money…such pretty cherry blossom and dried rose florals…firm and dusty tannins, yet the wine caresses and envelopes…love me some red licorice dryness…sandalwood, dried mint spice…screaming freshness stream of raspberry tarts and blood orange squeeze…some tar…all in an easy drinkin, and tasty as hell, package! More of this please! (94 points)

Nice notes Brian, I have a forgotten 2012 lined up for May sometime.

Didn’t see it elsewhere here but Vietti bough some Monvigliero vines:

“Next, some important updates to the MGA profiles, starting with Monvigliero just a few weeks ago, it was officially confirmed that Vietti had acquired a new vineyard from Diego Morra, located right within the historic amphitheater of the MGA. The total area is just over half a hectare.”

Seems like anyone with any self-respect at all is getting some Monvigliero these days
I’m kind of happy I stopped following a while ago…

Is this in addition to what they already had or is this the original purchase? Vietti has been making a Monvigliero since 2018.

This is new(s), fresh from the press.

The map master also mentioned that Roagna (family) has a new Serra vineyard with a likely release of a first Serra Barolo (2021) this fall.

Took about two hours to shake the dust off itself and stand up a bit straighter. Once it got going though it quickly became very beautiful, very quickly. Classic!

Red fruited, happy to be itself, maybe a brush of lavender and definitely some nutmeg. Again, classic. Plenty of life and balance left in it, and a glass and a half left for tonight.

Glad you had a god experience with that bottle. I had it a year ago and it was a dud. Just seemed tired, oxidized. I was pretty bummed. Seems like the 2006 has been hit or miss, at least according to CellarTracker notes.

Agreed, I had taken away the same thing from CT notes, and that’s actually what kind of pushed me to just go for it as soon as we had a good opportunity. I’m glad it was good too!

This was actually an auction purchase last year, and I do think I got a well cared for bottle with a really good cork. Cork was perfect, looked practically new. I am sorry yours didn’t live up to it.

Last night we had the 2013 Fratelli Alessandria Barolo, double decanted around noon and let it sit in the open bottle until around 7:00. I’ve only had this wine since they switched the designation to Commune di Verduno and have to say I found the profile here very similar and typical for Verduno, I would be curious to know how much other juice went to this bottling. Certainly entering an early drinking window but remains a bit stern for my taste. I always find these wines a great value, the structure is very elegant and comparable to bottles well above this price point.
