So that is their regular Barolo back then before they owned vineyards.

2005 Bruno Giacosa Barbaresco Asili
[Double-decanted for one hour at noon, then dumped into a decanter for an hour before dinner.] Still pretty tannic at first, but it opens up in the glass in about 15 minutes. Classic Giacosa nose of red fruit, fruitcake, and licorice. Black cherry and licorice in the attack carry through a riveting long finish. Needs another 5-10 years or a long decant to really show its stuff. 94-95 points.

They still made tasty wine with purchased fruit. And as you know, “regular” Barolo was all most producers made back then.
They were one of the few that had been making a special riserva Monfortino for decades before that.

Happy to hear that, I was gonna open one for my 65 birthday but decided to wait til 70. Any thoughts about the 2005 Barolo Le Rocche del Falletto ??
Probably needs even more time or air than the Falletto.

2015 Muraje Kraema
Recommended to me by @Otto_Forsberg , this is technically a Carema that cannot be labeled a such because it was vinified in Boca. Everything that I’m looking in a Nebbiolo is packed in this bottle, ethereal nose, juicy red fruits, high acidity and grippy tannins, and even though there is a touch of brett funk and VA the wine never comes as rustic, at the contrary, is very elegant and balanced.
2007 Ferrando Carema
To my surprise, the fruit department here seemed as young as the 2015 Muraje, actually the profile of this wine was incredibly similar to the Muraje except that it was bolder, perhaps more extracted, making the acidity and the tannins less noticeable. Another great wine with a long life ahead.

2021 Trediberri Barolo Berri: Complex, generous and giving. Perfectly ripe cherry fruit along with plenty of floral spice. Fleshy with a creamy, luscious mid-palate. Ripe tannins and something stony buried. Deep, long and very well balanced. Delicious now but so much in the tank.

2020 Produttori del Barbaresco - Pora
Decided to try one and happily it was quite charming as young nebbiolo goes. Still tannic of course, but not as austere as the 2019 was at the same point. Lovely quality and I look forward to following this in the years to come.

I am really curious about the Muraje wines as I’ve had trouble finding much feedback about them online. My local wine shop has their 2019 Lasu Vino Rosso and Sumie Carema and just marked the prices down. They started off pretty pricy, with the Sumie basically at the same price as Ferrando White Label.
That ethereal style of Nebbiolo sounds right up my alley
Yeah, they showed up in the Seattle market a couple of years ago, seemed kinda pricey. I think they were 2018s? Have not seen them around in local shops since, so not sure if they didn’t move because pricing was too ambitious or if they fell out of distribution in WA.
I understand that they have a tiny production, and it is very difficult to find. I bought my 2 bottles from Biondivino in San Francisco back in 2021 and I haven’t seen it offered by my usual sources again. They do have a distributor in Florida (Florida Wine Company), but every time they receive their allocation it goes in-and-out through a revolving door.
Yes it is indeed Muraje is a very small operation, they make wines more on the natural side but i think they have a very good sense of place. built for the long run
Today instead i had a 15 Ferrando Etichetta Bianca. Such a gem, light-medium body, ripe and fruity with the typical mineral/spice notes of carema. driking very well now

Opened a 2nd bottle of 2019 Roagna Langhe Rosso and am pleased to report this bottle was much better. It had become noticeably deeper, putting on more weight in the mid-palate. Now leaning towards medium-bodied, the balance and elegance present now work in tandem with the modest cherry fruit, creating a very enjoyable bottle of Nebbiolo.

Glad to hear it. My second bottle a couple of months ago also showed much better than the first a few months prior. If this has indeed deepened significantly, as would seem to be the case, it would be one of the most remarkable transformations for a wine that I can recall!

Very true, there is always more good wine to buy. But I am definitely feeling better about the rest of our case.
