At the end. And the beginning. And the middle…

Has Galloni ever tasted a big house vintage Champagne he didn’t like? Genuinely asking.

But yeah, that’s a rave review.

NV Delamotte Blanc de Blancs - 2018 base, disgorged in the second quarter of 2022. A definite step up from the Brut. Lemons and other citrus, nice mousse, nothing out of place with a very nice long finish. Our half bottle was gone in a flash.

The only one that I can immediately recall was 2011 Comtes.

I think the same is unfortunately true of the two new Champagne writers for the Wine Advocate. Big house = big score.

Yes, I also find the Deloitte BdB a step up from the Brut.

Champagne always hit hard when audit season is over

Oops, probably bad spelling and annoying spell check.

Champagne is one of the brighter spots in a world fraught with uncertainty.

Touché

Justt one data point to the contrary, I opened a 2013 St. Aubin Chateniere that was quite advanced, though still drinkable.

Premox?

I’m not drinking sparklers right now, as my wife and I won’t reconnect in Bordeaux for another month. But Berserkers who find themselves in central Ohio need to make a beeline for Hills Market in Worthington. Best selection of Champagne I’ve ever seen in a grocery, or indeed anywhere outside of France.

Outstanding selection of labels including Philliponat, Marc Hebrart and many others, often with several selections from the same house. I’d estimate 60 separate producers. Better than any caviste I’ve visited in California (though full disclosure: I’ve never actually set foot in Hi-Time.)

you should also set foot in Woodland Hills Wine Company, if you have not yet done so (and I’m assuming you have not)

This better be good!

I’d just say advanced. The brown/dark gold color suggested premox, but it didn’t show the bruised apple and maderization that I associate with premox. It was more nutty and still had some brightness and almost bracing acidity. It was better than the color suggested but not what I expected.

Friggin @Warren_Taranow and all of his notes made me pop another one of these with some crab cakes. Brilliant wine and so good I bought a few more recently at $50 per more than my original purchases and glad I did. Sadly one less in the cellar  pretty much spot on with the notes above.

Did it once, do not recommend. I came home with two cases of bubbles, a drained wallet, and an angry bf for not bringing him with me.
