Which Champagne are you drinking?

Now this is dedication!

I will admit, after reading this I searched Amazon for options. One is now on my Christmas list. :sunglasses:

Why doesn’t that surprise me? :kissing_heart:

Was not super impressed with this one. Am hoping the “nicer” Rodez I have on pre-arrival are better than this was …

NV Eric Rodez Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs - France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru (7/11/2025)
– popped and poured –
– tasted non-blind over 1.5 hrs. in a restaurant setting –
– Lot No.: 11/2024 –
– Disgorged: September 2023 –

Broady, bassy apple. Leans just a liiiiitle bit oxidative. Dosage is noticeable, which is kinda surprising given that this was the Extra Brut. Like-don’t-love it. Not a rebuy at $68.

:grimacing::grimacing::grimacing: I have a half case waiting for me, I think.

Not sure how reliable the cheaper pH meters are in practice, they also need to be calibrated frequently. I’d do some research on specific models before buying one.

First go with a Roederer 244, and I’m liking it.

:grimacing: oooof. Hope it’s more to your liking than it was mine.

Did they pretreat the glass of the pH meter with alkali?

no?

NOOBS!

Yea. Tell them!

This is all spot on! I had a Bluelabs PH pen that i used when growing hydroponically, and they have to be calibrated with multiple solutions monthly to ensure accuracy. Also, they have to be kept moist and in a storage solution. If the probe dries it’s trash. Having used plenty of the cheap meters that can be purchased for ~$20, i wouldn’t advise purchasing, accuracy is all over the place.

See the initial thread for the pH meter we used. We even tested our water glasses with a lemon wedge = 6.2

I opened this exact bottle two nights ago! Old Faithful. I haven’t gotten around to posting it yet.

accuracy or precision?

Mon Village from Girard-Bonnet, a new (to me anyway) Mesnil cuvée. Mostly 2021, 2g/L disgorged in December 2024.

Too freshly disgorged to really assess. Lots of potential though, deep chalk dust and citrus. Strict finish.

I would say both. But in this case, does it really matter? That is to say, who cares if its consistently reading .8 high or low if you have no idea it’s not correct in the first place. Regardless, i have derailed this thread enough.

Consistently good and always a great value.

Romain Henin Entre les Gouttes

2021, 60% PN/30% CH/10% PM. Zero sulphur, zero dosage. Spring 24 disgorgement.

Oaky nose, soft but present. Lots of puppy fat, juicy yellow fruits. Big bones.

Extracted from a thread just posted: The Too Many Fine Wines Dinner Group enjoyed a fine evening with 11 wines from 6 people: 2 champagnes, 3 white Burgs, 2 Rieslings, reds from Bandol, Mount Etna and CDP and a Kracher TBA

2008 de VENOGE CHAMPAGNE LOUIS XV BRUT- 50% Pinot Noir (41.5% from Verzenay and 8.5% from Bouzy) and 50% Chardonnay (20% from Avize, 15% from Oger and 15% from Mesnil), with a dosage of 6 gpl; this is the first vintage of de Venoge’s prestigious Louis XV where the base wines didn’t undergo ML; my bring and my go to high end champagne when I’m in Amsterdam as my favorite wine shop carries a lot of this from numerous vintages, especially from 1995 and 1996; this bottle had a pure yellow color and aromas of hazelnut, caramel, ginger and butterscotch accented yellow apple and lemon that was joined on the palate by a coat of honey and an indication of early oxidative advancement; it was rich and full bodied as one would expect from a 2008 and delivered in an oily, feel good texture all the way through.

NV FALLET-DART les HAUT des CLOS du MONT- although stated to be non vintage on the label, it is 100% from 2006 with 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir, bottled in 2007 and aged 15+ years on the lees and disgorged 4/23; the color was amber yellow and the nose suggested something fabulous was forthcoming with mildly spice and toffee laden apple and pear fruit that was super tasty; it had bright acidity and a creamy texture while maintaining perfect balance throughout; I liked it so much, I bought some the next day.

Cheers,
Blake
