Nope
I always thought this would age well and be a very good, not great Comtes. Didn’t even feel bad hanging @Warren_Taranow with some 07 to go along with the 08.
13 cristal was pretty open for us about 6 months ago.
Very much so. I’ll open another one in Atlanta in a few weeks. I’ll probably try to giving it an hour of opening prep. Hopefully your abscence won’t make it closed down like these West Coast notes have been
2007 Comtes is drinking so beautifully these days

2007 Taittinger Champagne Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut
07 Comtes is a fabulous bottle of champagne. It is fleshy as all get out, and balanced, with broad appeal. This bottle had apple flesh, white peach, and hints of grilled nuts. It has always been and remains the most unsung and underestimated rendition of this cuveé in my memory (95 points)
I always kinda feel this way about 2007 Dom Ruinart too. Every time I have it I think oh, right, chardonnay did pretty well in 07 and that’s pretty damn good stuff. Gets kicked a bit as a vintage, but then when Salon, Comtes, Ruinart and the other big Chard-Lords crank out winners, maybe worth a second glass. I mean second look.
Agreed. Early on it was getting maligned as shouldn’t have been released, WK’s review isn’t accurate, etc…words words words.
Comtes 2007 is a very good wine and 2007 Comtes Rose borders great.
What other grand marques made 07s? Salon was quite good last week.

That was one of the unexpectedly best forced-bundling experiences of my life! Thanks again!

I agree, and my five bottles, along with my only six-liter bottle of wine in my cellar, attest to that shared opinion. My largest bottle is a nine-liter of Laurent-Perrier La Cuvée Brut, which I snagged for a song early in the pandemic, when the retailer realized there wouldn’t be large gatherings for the foreseeable future.

2007 Dom Ruinart
I heard the 2010 was exceptional too, despite the vintage. I passed on some at auction earlier today, though I’ll admit it did strain my resolve.

Not having had the 172, I would still agree that the 2015 Bolly LGA is not as good…lol.
Ha! You have more confidence about that opinion than I do. It was the least giving of the prestige cuvees, at least at the moment I sampled it. I don’t know how long the bottle had been open. I am not sure my snap judgments would hold if I got to spend time with these bottles over an evening.
2016 Roederer Blanc de Blancs
Grabbed a couple of these and decided to open one tonight.
Still very young, but this is a very demonstrative BdB, especially by Roederer standards. Due to the vintage, this leans more in the toasty, almond paste direction with golden apple and maybe even a touch of peachy-pear rather than the chalky, racy, citrus-driven character that I associate with Roederer BdB. Still shows a nice seaspray quality in the background. Good, structuring acids, creamy on the palate, if lacking a bit of complexity at this stage.
I’ll let the two other bottles sit for awhile and see how they develop, but I doubt this will go down as one of the finest renditions of this cuvée. Still, Roederer’s good is better than a lot of other folks’ great, so it’s still a really nice Champagne!
2008 Gimmonet Oenophile, Krug 26eme rose, and 96 Comtes out of mag, en route to a 40th birthday bash with a maggies of 94 Verset, Keller and Egon Müller, and assorted other goodies, including 84 Patrick Jasmin cote rotie and Yquem in surprisingly fine form.

96 Comtes out of mag
How was this?
Crazy young still, super vinous and plenty of superfine bubbles. Very close to WOTN but just edged out by the Keller and Müller.
Thats helpful. Thanks. I’m always thinking that I want my CdC with just a couple more years (regardless of vintage). Probably a sign that mags aren’t the way for me to go
I think it’s been commented on here before, but the bubbles are aomehow way better out of mag with time. The worst thing about this is the maddening bottle size

What other grand marques made 07s? Salon was quite good last week.
Besides the BdBs mentioned above I’ve had Cristal 07 (which I’m sure you’ve seen), and Bollinger RD 07. Cristal 07 doesn’t stand up to the run of strong subsequent vintages, but that’s a very high bar.
