Waiting for Salon to come down in price
The 2018 Chartogne Taillet Les Barres EB (100% meunier, dg Jan 2023) was terrific and a pleasant surprise. A real mouthful of fruit, quite lush in fact, with great secondary notes, but still fairly dry.
Buy some Selosse or Krug Clos du Mesnil to hold you over while you wait!

I generally feel these ‘7 cepage’ cuvées are more of a curiosity than an ‘improvement’ and this was the same. Nice to try it for sure.
Dinner date night with my wife on this past Friday at Roger’s Gardens in Newport Beach. Second time here in a month, and both times with the enchilada dish. it’s a legit dish, great both times now, unique in flavor but spot on for my palate. Home Page - Farmhouse at Roger's Gardens
ROAST SPAGHETTI SQUASH AND BRAISED GREENS ENCHILADAS
cauliflower bechamel, potatoes and caramelized onions, tehachapi grain project blue corn tortillas, guajillo-lemon verbena sauce & white cheddar cheese, chorizo spiced cauliflower rice, roasted carrots, cipollini onions, green beans, cherry tomato avocado relish.
I brought the wine below, which I will finally finish tonight.
- 2016 Larmandier-Bernier Champagne Premier Cru Terre de Vertus - France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru (10/20/2024)
September 2022 disgorgement. The wine became more complex on the 2nd day. The whiff on the aroma that registered with me last night was buttered toast and fresh citrus. The same buttered toast note is in the wine too, along with pear, green apple and lots of lemon peel. At this stage the wine is mostly about the lemon with the pear, and is very fresh. And despite the lack of dosage, there is some good texture here but it's not going to convey plush or round. I do like it still and it's drinking great, likely youthful for some people.

Guy Lamandier Signe Francois Vielle Vignes:
I bought four bottles of this blind on Warren’s recommendation. It was a good piece of advice, as it is a steal at the $69.99 price tag. Goldilocks level of density and flavor intensity. Rich and creamy with a surprising red cherry top note. The richness is matched with steely acidity which powers a long and lightly buttery finish. I hope to see Envoyer carry this agin.
Stealing this.
Yum times 2- thanks for the tip for my next OC visit
So glad to hear I bought 3 bottles of this and I couldn’t remember why. Must have been Warren
Yeah maybe we can dine there together and see if we can get a few more people involved. I haven’t talked to them about the corkage policy but it’s a really great setting and they seem to be doing a really nice job as it’s difficult to get in there with a reservation so that says something.
I ordered six. But here’s a disclaimer; I haven’t tried the 2009. I’m glad Scott confirmed it was a smart purchase. The 2008 was transcendent when I tried it a couple of years ago, and made me wished I’d bought more. Brig has a recent note that’s not as complementary, but my bottle was outstanding. Some regulars here also loved the '08 a few years back.
I thoroughly enjoyed this, but it wasn’t transcendent for me. De Sousa Mycorhize is my benchmark for BdB. This didn’t reach the same heights.
I confess a slight detour into hyperbole. Still, a really good bottle.
Double posted
I’ve been reading glowing reviews of the last 3 iterations of Roederer’s Collection from trusted sources on WineBeserkers and somehow avoided ever tasting one let alone buy some. It took one more recommendation before I finally opted to get some and the first bottle was outstanding.
NV LOUIS ROEDERER COLLECTION 244- based on 2019 of which 54% {5% aged in oak} make up the blend that includes reserves from 2012-2018, of which 10% of the 46% were aged in oak; 1/3 of the fruit was sourced from their “la Rivière” Estate, 1/3 from “la Montagne” Estate and 1/3 from “la Côte” Estate; only 35% went through ML; the varietal breakdown is 41% Chardonnay, 33% Pinot noir and 26% Pinot Meunier; it was dosed at 7 gpl; the color was a light yellow and the nose offered pleasant citrus fruit with lemon most prominent; on the palate, honeyed lemon, pear, honey dew melon, green apple, white peach and a mild accent of ginger likened to ginger ale provided a savory treat; it had a mellow mousse with just a little weight, a nice streak of acidity running through and finished with everything elegantly coming together; I’m impressed, it’s a great QPR and I’m getting more.
Cheers,
Blake
Louis Roederer Collection 244
Good Karma for me today as I coincidentally hopped on the same wave as Champagne maestro @Blake_Brown . We opened this bottle to enjoy the waning days of Autumn, al fresco. And like Blake, the wave that this bottle generated was a good one for us. Fresh, energetic and ebullient at first, it evolved and stayed delicious as we left the bottle open and un-chilled over our hour or so of drinking. Mineral, chalk, lemon, apple. Fresh and delicious right to the very end, (even though the bubbles were gone).
Very Recommended.
:Great timing Jim.
Where did you find the De Sousa?
It was a good one
Not Scott, but Envoyer had an offer in June.
