Which Champagne are you drinking?

This one has been a pleasure. I checked in on the 2012 again recently and it is still so ungiving.

But a bottle of 242 with salmon belly last night, while not a great match, was just as happy as always.

Varietal mix, mineral and citrus driven. Really liked it.

I am really impressed with the quality of the Roederer wines nowadays.

Agreed. Given escalating pricing on the best tete de cuvees and the grower skew towards lower or no dosage, it’s a pleasure to have options in the Big House style, which often pairs better with many kinds of food, for me, that won’t break the bank, or demand too much from me.

That’s a wonderful champagne :+1:

The Agrapart was bottled in May of 2020, Does that mean it’s a 2019 base with reserve wines?

I think Complantée is an assemblage of 2 vintages only but I’m not 100% sure. So there’s probably some 2018 in there.

jacquesson champagne 2005 was amazing and paired well with korean fried chicken.

It almost felt like apple concentrate with caramel. The mousse was still there and this wine is 100% in its drinking window. The acidity has mellowed out and it drinks rich and opulent. The large oak foudres used with this wine is really evident with this style.

Very much the opposite style of what I gravitate towards… but this was damn good. Highly recommend.

Had some very nice bottles last weekend
Heucq Heritage 2014 and Parcellaire Les Roches 2016
Dhont Grellet Prestige du Moulin and Vielles Vignes Selectionnes 2011
The wines from Heucq was shining brightly. Fresh and crisp acidity was the trademark. Great aromatics
I am used to Dhont Grellet stealing the show but this time they were muted and tame in comparison to Heucq

Pierre Legras - NV Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Brut
Fine bubbles and this was an evaporation bottle. Wanted to follow it over two night but shit happens, and as a consequence the notes were quite limited.

Green/bitter almond, citrus fruits and pears, together with herbal notes. Grippy acidic structure and a long finish, very elegant.

i found this to be far better than the les nogers cuvee…

did you drink the Nogers in absolute perfect conditions as well? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

does overlooking lyon from la croix rousse count? this just feels more precise, clearer fruit, less oxidative, better judged wood, etc.

Brought this to a local omakase sushi restaurant last night. Poured a deep golden color, perhaps slightly darker than I’d have anticipated, but well within age-appropriate range. At first a little bruised apple, though not apple cider, and a tiny whiff of oxidation, which came across a touch worrisome, but our dining companion was confident it was going to shine. The palate was excellent from the start - light and delicate mousse, great arc, savory pastry notes, some marizpan, baked spiced apple. I needn’t have worried. The nose also came together and firmed up with air, and the small oxidation gave way to stately maturity. I thought it was outstanding, even though I might have guessed somewhat older than it was. Another gorgeous '95 and outstanding for its age, though Jonathan might have preferred a little more freshness. I loved it, as did our friend.

This is my least favorite cuvee of his that I’ve tasted. I thought it was the most introverted, although I can see someone who has different tastes than me (e.g., preferring Selosse VO vs Initial) to prefer this cuvee.

that is an interesting way to conceptualize it. i have always opted to drink vo as opposed to initial when given the choice so maybe you are on to something…

Sarah,

Great note on a fairly forgotten or not talked about much vintage of Clos des Goisses. Production was only around 5,000 bottles so that probably explains some of why. While I loved the 96 in its youth, I always enjoyed the 95 and would rather drink the 95 than the 96 today.

I have a late disgorged 96 left, having had one of my two a year ago. I was not very impressed, and it was pretty oxidative with high acid. I’ve not had the second one in part because i’m not that excited to drink it again.

A Laherte wine I’ve never had is on deck tonight. The Rose de Meunier.

Was this a true late disgorgement? Or was this one of the original but later releases of 1996 CdG?

Do y’all remember the endless debates on this board about which original release of 1996 CdG was better? The April disgorgement or the July? Pepperidge Farm remembers.
