Which Champagne are you drinking?

:clap::clap:

I just have one left, glad it continues to deliver great pleasure, Warren. Enjoy your vacation.

Extracted from a thread just posted re another blind wine tasting dinner:

2013 VILMART & CIE GRAND CELLIER d’OR 1er Cru- blind; 80% Chardonnay, 20% Pinot Noir aged 10 months in oak barriques and 42 months on the lees; sees no ML; typically dosed around 7 gpl, this was disgorged in October 2017; the color was a light yellow with a pink hued border; the nose offered splendid and inviting green and yellow apple and lemon with a touch of brioche, all of which continued on to the back end once tasted; it had super bright acidity, was big, rich, powerful and complex with layered depth and had an impressive structure that suggests this can go at least a couple of decades before reaching its apogee; it seemed clear to me it had to come from 2008, the vintage of powerful, big and rich wines and more specifically, it was Taittinger Comtes. Surprise, surprise.

Cheers,
Blake

Using this example is there a calculus to determine how much of each vintage remains after a period of time?
I guess we would need to know when they started bottling (~10yrs?) and maybe other factors?

I’m wondering how many years until the early vintages become negligible?

Maybe a question for AI

Love this wine and the 13 Coeur de Cuvee too. Thank you for the note, Blake.

My wedding champagne! Thank you for the note. Still have a few magnums laying around, but will need to see if I can stock up on singles…

Easily my favorite MV, particularly when it was easy to find under $50.

Disclaimer: we sell this wine.

Champagne De Lozey 50-50
50% Pinot Noir (100% solera), 50% Chardonnay (100% solera), no dosage (brut nature), all stainless and aged 5 to 6 years. Plums, apricots and cherry blossom on the nose. The palate is initially fresh and elegant but as this warms up and gets some air, it adds creaminess and texture and makes it whole. Long layered finish with citrus and minerality. I really dig this.

A back porch birthday celebration. This was a very nice Champagne. NV, Blanc de Blancs, Brut Nature, Grand Cru vineyards. Creamy and fruity. Subdued yeast almost bread-like. Disgorged April 2014.
In summary: Yum!

P.S. The morning after . . .

This is our house fizz. Open it often for non-wine friends and family. Good enough for $30CAD / $22 USD.

From another thread. I’ve stopped buying the NV Egly-Ouriet BdN VV Crayères due to the price escalation. It’s regrettable, as this bottle proved how special it is. For me, this is the best wine from E-O.
Our bottle was disgorged October 2020, after 75 months on the lees. Probably 2012-13 base.
The color was so dense Marybeth asked if I’d opened a rosé. Extracted rather than oxidized. As near to a perfect bottle of champagne as I can imagine. A complex tapestry of aromas, flavors and textures. Apricot, dark berries, citrus, chalk, cinnamon, ginger, more… a breathtaking wine that will test my determination not to buy more.

2013 Pehu Simonet Champagne Premier Cru Fins Lieux No 7 Villers-Marmery Les Chouettes - France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru (4/27/2024)
– popped and poured –
– tasted non-blind over approx. 8 hrs. –
– 100% Chardonnay –
– dosage: 3g/L –
– disgorged: May 2021 –

NOSE: light; presents with delicate facets of slightly-bruised apples, marzipan, and butter.

BODY: medium-rich, lightly-golden yellow color; light to medium-light bodied; very active bead.

TASTE: lemon-lime soda; frothy; active bead; dry; high acidity; hints of ginger and baking spice; juicy mid-palate cherry note. Both Ashley and I like this a lot and would re-buy. Fruit is from the Les Chouettes parcel within the Villers Marmery cru.

We are big fans of this producer. After tasting this one, I raced back a bought the last few bottles from The Bottle List. BTW, Lopa has offered this producer if you are on that mailing list.

Lopa had NV mags for $80. Great deal.

Damn you. I will help ameliorate your pain by buying them off you!

the Face Nord, I assume, yes? I think that’s a solid bottle of bubbles, but this 2013 “fins lieux” was on a completely different level.
