If that’s the case, you’d love my job! ![]()
Tonight, MB didn’t want wine. I finished a busy week of work and felt the need. If you have to drink alone, do it right. This half bottle was superb.
…and…
I concur. Of the ‘08s right now Louis was drinking the best when I had it. I just want their pricing to stay the same, because I think they’re in a good spot right now.
I went to my local champagne bar to celebrate (not that I need a reason to drink champagne).
They have 7 champagnes BTG and I think 25 other non-champagne sparklers BTG.
I Got a flight of 3 champagnes. For a 2 oz pour I actually preferred a flute in this instance.
I liked the Jean Laurent the best a Blanc de Noir 100% Pinot noir and it showed. Red fruit, brioche solid stuff.
Also had a glass of Le Mesnil Grand Cru Blanc de Blanc Brut which is a reliable bottling. Rich and creamy with tart citrus.
We drunk the 2018 Les Pommiers instead, which is the new champagne from Lancelot. A liver can only take so much. Perhaps next week.
There appear to be a lot of people in that profession nowadays.
I agree. I think the Elisabeth Salmon is just as good as DP rose, but a lot cheaper. The Louis Salmon shows a lot like like Krug vintage with lots of lemon and acidity but it drinks much better young and again a lot cheaper. I think the brut rose is so much better now than 10 years ago when it looked at tasted more like grenadine. Thankfully they make a ton of that so pricing should remain comparable to other MV roses.
They’ve really been trying to up their quality across the board and I think it shows. So at the end of the day I can’t complain if they do up their prices (some). Because they’ve made a big investment on quality.
At La Fete last year I tried the 08 Louis Salmon 3 times and it was extremely close in quality to 2012 Salon. Great bottle.
A couple bottles from last night. The Doyard Revolution has been discussed here before. 100% Chardonnay, 2015 base, cellared 66 months, no doseage. Somewhat muted nose, but explosive flavor on the palate. Lemon and green apple in a high-wire package. The Gamet (60% Meunier, 40% Pinot Noir, 2019 base, cellared 20 months, 5g/l doseage) suffered a little in comparison. Red fruit and citrus, with excellent tension, but not quite the intensity of the Doyard.
I was just communicating with a friend who was at that tasting. I plan to go to La Fête in NY next year.
And here I thought this was a regular Saturday evening at Greg’s…
Unless I’m mistaken, it was La Fête
We had dinner with Laurent and Thomas who were in town for Fete.
Looks like a lot Vilmart on the table…
Always nice you can get such a high quality champagne in 375ml. Did you check the Krug Id to see which release / base year the half bottle was? 171eme? 170? Earlier?
