To my personal ciphering, that would be Ployez-Jacquemart!
Domaine des Tuileries Clos du chateau 2018 was quite rich (relatively) like many ‘18 zero dosage wines. Needs some more time to blossom but good stuff here.
Sounds like you are going with the PJ, but if this turns into a 2 bottle night the '14 LGA is drinking very well now and you don’t have to worry about it being shut down.
I’ll definitely open one of these soon, but this group is good for one glass of champagne before moving to red. I know, I know…
I enjoy a glass of red every now and then too. Happy Birthday to your Mom!
Btw, I see you have vertical of Roederer rosé. I have had a couple bottles of the '16 and it’s really good. Definitely worth seeking out.
Agree on 14 LGA. Killer right now
Agree that 14 LGA is really good right now! In fact I have been blitzing through them like Blake has the 08 Cristal
and no not saving any for the kids.
I’m curious, isn’t the 2008 signe francois a brut? I actually found it a bit too sweet for my tastes even though it had everything else I wanted in a champ.
Conversely, I had the guy larmandier Nv (2012 base, 2017 disg extra brut) that was stellar recently
I would note that he changes the dosage quite a bit depending on the market. If you ever get the non-US imported wines, they will have a lot more dosage.
Well, this didn’t suck! Nice toasty brioche, orchard fruit, good acidity. Not the most complex but much appreciated. 2014 Roy Piper decanting for steaks ![]()
Agreed. It’s superb!

Used to really enjoy these when I could pick them up at World Market for ~14. Haven’t seen one in ages so purchased at grocery for $20, just to try a bit and put in Mimosas eventually. Hmmm. Really lean, dry, lacking any fruit and a bit tannic actually. Not what I remembered, but it has been years. Pass on the $10 up charge and go for the Segura Viudas or even Cristalino imo if Sunday Mimosa drinking, spend $10 more for straight up. (at least for this 2017)…
Charles Heidsieck Blanc de Blancs:
Picked up a couple bottles of this at Costco for $63. 2018 base disgorged in 2022. 25% reserve wines. It’s made in a ripe, fullish, toasty and crowd pleasing style. Smoky, salty, nutty, and packed with pineapple and citrus flavors. I found it quite round with acidity that was just a little on the soft side for me, and I wanted it to have a bit more drive, but it was far from unbalanced. It’s an attractive but ultimately unmoving Champagne, lacking in personality. Maybe I will resonate more with the next bottle.
Can I post redneck Champagne in this thread? Last night, the 2017, best showing of a UM Rose for me. Vey Vinuous, Pinot character. Somewhat like a pet nat more than its champagne cousins. More approachable and less aggressive than bottle last year.
The GL Signe Francois is labeled “Brut Zero”. Its one of the few non-dose wines that really works for me. They must get some excellent fruit out of that vineyard for it to carry that sort of character without dosage.
For the 2008, 4 of 7 bottle pics on CT shows it as a brut in the bottom left. I would bet heavily that the bottle I had in February had a moderately high dosage. I had the brut version. I believe these were from Envoyer. They must be the Europe release and not the American as Greg was mentioning. I would absolutely love to try the brut zero version.
I have one more but its buried right now. I’ll try to remember to take a pic when I inventory in November.
Remind me to pull one next time you’re in New York, I have a bunch of the Rosenthal imports of this (which are low dosage). It makes a real difference.
The 2012 that was at Costco was really good, borderline excellent.
I personally feel like Charles Heidsieck excels in Brut blends and Blanc de Millenaires, this is a newer cuvee that I haven’t had and don’t plan on, also not a huge fan of their Rose. Vintage Brut, NV Brut, and vintage BdM they excel.
