André Clouet Un jour de 1911
If we had a house champagne, this would be it. These need some time after disgorgement, but we've loved every bottle. There's always a beautiful interplay between the youthful and aged components in this wine. Some bottles show one side of that more than others, yet I've never had an "off" bottle. This had apples and biscuits, with tart lemon flavors and acidity, coffee beans. Great finesse, complexity and chalky minerality.
I hope you like them. @Tom_K at Apex Fine Wines had them for a laughably low price last year. That warrants case purchases if I see that again. These age really well.
Cheers

A more youthful showing than any of the previous bottles I have opened. This one was dominated by citrus flavors - mostly orange - and cinnamon and coffee beans on a creamy, full bodied frame. The more evolved complexities of chocolate, fig, creme brulee, and brown sugar are there but mere whispers.
This isn’t the highest expression of this wine, but I really enjoyed its intensity, and it’s more different than inferior. This is far and away the best Champagne I have tasted to date, though I lack a lot of context, and drinking this wine, in all its iterations, is like hearing Hillary Hahn play Bach for the first time. Time to reload.
ChatGPT corrects my spelling and grammar, making my original writing clearer and more understandable. From a business perspective, I find it invaluable. I have no problem admitting I use ChatGPT.

First experience with this wine. We enjoyed it. Energetic with that spicy Meunier fruit. Maybe a tiny bit young and stark - not really a complaint, but a “feature”.

Love that wine. First had it in October 2021 in England from a magnum that was part of a mixed case of Champagne I had delivered from the Finest Bubble to Gravetye Manor for a four day bday party a close friend (and big time champagne lover) hosted. This was the first mag we opened and I just loved it. Came back to DC and started hunting for it. Bought three 750s from Wide World of Wine, drank one, went back for more and they’d sold out. Found three at a little liquor/wine shop near Dupont Circle on New Year’s Day and they brought them to my front porch that afternoon. But I keep opening them! I did get a mag from Flatiron a few months ago when they offered a distributor’s closeout.
In one of the Naked Gun movies, Leslie Nielsen storms into the storefront of an attractive and buxom storekeeper in a low cut blouse. She bends over the counter and asks, “Is this some kind of bust?” Leslie Neilsen looks at her chest for a moment and replies, “It’s very impressive, yes.” This wine is kind of like that. It is rich, round and opulent with a voluptuous frame, some complexity, and does speak of Cote de Blancs terroir (in spite of being only 45% chardonnay). It’s just missing a little something. That extra spark of personality behind the mammaries. I like it, and would buy again at the price I paid ($100), but it just doesn’t quite live up to its ambitions.
Second bottle of this. Better than I remembered. Nice yeasty, bready notes. Some dried orchard fruit. Would be really nice as an aperitif, especially at the $38 I got it for. No idea of base year or disgorgement, tried to look for it. I’ve made a concerted effort this year to drink more bubbles just because and that’s led to more Sunday bubbles, a tradition I can get behind.
An oxidative and ripe Champagne. More developed and darker color than I expected and will drink my remaining bottles sooner than later. Hard to believe this is a zero dosage. Would have guessed the opposite. Lots of brioche, preserved lemon, bruised apple, and sweeter than I expected. A bitter and marzipan note on a medium finish. Bubbles seemed to disappear pretty fast.
Jean Vesselle Oeil de Perdrix Rose - I’ve had this a half dozen times over the years and again yesterday evening. It’s a competent rose, with a nice salmon color, and a fair brut profile without unnecessary sweetness. It’s just a boring wine. A consistent 89-90 that inspires me to buy anything else.
