Which Champagne are you drinking?

Come on Warren. Haven’t you already cornered enough of the world’s supply of Champagne? :snort:

Both excellent choices… wish I had more '02 Comtes BdB.

As for me, last weekend was the LP Grand Siècle N.25 Grande Cuvée. Wow, even at such young age it gives and gives and gives. Superurb aging potential, but why should one wait?
I should have gotten ~1cs on release and enjoy it for years to come.

This evening this went down rather well indeed…

And was the kick-off wine for Virtual Tasting for Charity Week 4 - Rosé - Dec 14-21 for Doctors without Borders - #4 by P_a_u_l_Christensen

  • NV André Jacquart Champagne Premier Cru Extra Brut Rosé de Saignée Experience - France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru (14/12/2022)
This is really rather nice indeed...
    80% PN (Vertus), 20% C (Mesnil-sur-Oger)
    Tirage 6-2016
    Disgorgement 7-2019; dosage 4g/l

The nose brings quite rich red fruits overlaid with minerality. The palate is really nicely balanced for my taste. Crisp acidity, red fruit that sits nicely between tart and rich, and a sort of granite minerality that persists with some light tannins into the quite lengthy and more-ish finish.

Overall this is very much to my taste, going well as an aperitif and then pairing with some Vietnamese food. And very decent QPR at the ~US$46 that I paid. (92 points)

From another thread:

NV Egly Ouriet BdN Les Crayéres. Old vines, planted in 1946. Disgorged July 2019 after 72 months on the lees, this was a blend of mostly 2014, plus 30% 2013. It’s one of my favorite wines this year. Great density; more citrus and white orchard fruit than red berries. Lots of mandarin, pear, peach and fragrant tropical flowers.

Great wine! But, @Warren_Taranow, how can it be 2014/2013 if it spent 6 years on the lees and was disgorged in 2019? I would guess 2012 and 2011 dominant if just given the back label.

I have the same disgorgement, and according to William Kelley’s review, it is “based on” the 2012 and contains 40% 2011.

Had this last night and boy is it delicious! Crystalized lemon green apple chalk and a bit of pear with salt on the finish. But what were they thinking when the put this wine in that bottle?!

Disgorged: 1/21, Base 2017?

Very pale pink. Lightly aromatic nose. A bit muted. Strawberries. Light sweetness such as Meringue. Mild, fine mousse. Medium tart. A bit sweet for my tastes, but not to the point of cloying.

I ordered this pre-arrival late last year untasted and when my Champagne tastes were in their infancy. Grand Cru at under $40 seemed like a great deal. And maybe it is for what it is. But stylistically, I’d rather drink something with a more character and cut. I suspect most people would find it very pleasing and quaffable.

That seems right. I got my dates off the email offer from which I purchased these, but maybe I did better. I didn’t bother to subtract the 6 years or I would have noticed the discrepancy.

I was on Instagram today and a short video about Doyard hit my feed. I’m not sure whether you have to have an IG account to watch the video but I am placing the link if you are interested/want to try.

2013 Doyard Bdb for $90 at bottle list( after 10% off 10FOR2022) seems like a decent deal for a great chard vintage.

fun. Thanks. That Lumières 08 is over $300 per bottle.

Gone With the Wind. :sob:

96 krug and 08 cristal rose for lunch today amongst a host of other wines. The krug had a rich, alluring nose of sea shell, biscuit, honey and hints of curry powder. However, the palate was seriously shut down. Have heard so many conflicting reports about this wine that I don’t know whether it will ever live up to its initial promise. The cristal rose was its usual magnificent self though. Impeccable balance with such weightless power and persistence. Not sure it’s worth 3x the price of the 08 DP Rose but it is fantastic.

Claus, how did this show?

  • 2014 Larmandier-Bernier Champagne Grand Cru Les Chemins d'Avize - France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru (12/15/2022)
December 2021 disgorgement again. Opened this yesterday and it evolved and changed over dinner. At one moment it was limey and carried a good spine. At another moment, green apple and nougat, with some oak imprint. After dinner last night, I sealed up the bottle with a stopper and kept a final glass for this afternoon, so the wine has been open about 24 hours. On vacation, I don't have a good stem but it's decent to get a final impression. Today it has evolved to a chalky palate impression, as if the Avize soil was liquified into the wine. And to an extent, it does have the green apple from last night, a snappy form of it like a cold yellow apple that has that freshly snapped taste. Some tangerine and a little bit of the apple pie crust note of the bottle I had at the winery this past May, too. It finishes with a lemony cut, ginger, orange and papaya. Overall, this is a powerful wine that is still very youthful, reflecting a good amount of structure with the fruit concentration wrapped through it. Given the concentration and power here, let this air and drink it with just a light chill to allow it to unwrap. This is a great wine with a long runway ahead, a wine that I will add more bottles now to the cellar while it's still affordable.

Last night had a 2013 Gisele Devavry and really, really liked it. Very delicate bubbles and mouthfeel. Taste at first was of apple, but more apple sauce than green apples, and then it ended up more towards a lemon curd sort of taste as it warmed up. Very brut and just exactly what we wanted. Bought from the producer and even with shipping to the US it came to around $70(US) per bottle, and I’d happily pay that again for this.

Hey Frank
Really loved La Bergerie
BUT not as much as Pappillon. One of 2022´s greatest Champagne experiences

Thank you Frank! Enjoyed that.
