I’m given a choice of two bubbly - 98 Dom or a 97 Cristal.
Which taste better and more ready to drink?
Merci and happy new year!

A matter of preference, but I have a hard time resisting DP’s style.

I don’t think 1997 was Roederer’s strongest year and the 1997 Cristal is a subpar release in my book. To the contrary, I think the 1998 vintage has made a very nice DP that is drinking very nicely right now and should continue to develop. When served blind, I’ve even seen those who claim to not like DP or who say they only like it with age enjoy the 1998.
Whether for today or tomorrow, my recommendation would be the DP unless you need to serve/drink Cristal.
Opened a bottle of DP 98 this week, very nice, but no rush.
See if you can negotiate for better vintages?
I haven’t had the 98 Dom recently, but I was very underwhelmed by it on release.

'98 Dom is in a nice spot for drinking now…very enjoyable.
The 98 Dom is drinking very very well right now.
The 97 Cristal never impressed, although it’s a very very good wine.
I’d probably go for the Dom, but would be curious about the 97 Cristal too as I haven’t tried it in a while.
