Where should I stay in Rio de Janeiro?

Going to Rio for a week end of January. I’ll be at business meetings at a location very near the airport, but can stay anywhere. My contact down there says just stay down at Copacabana. Any particularly suggestions, or alternative suggestions?
Thanks

Who is paying?

Do you want to beach it, go to great restaurants or tour the city?

If money is no object, the Ceasar Park Ipanema or the Copacabana Palace.

If you are on a budget, try the Rio Roiss right behind the Othon Palace.

I am there all of the time, hit me for restaurant, music and other info.

PS: I will be there at the same time but will not be de-cloaking to speak English or do wine related stuff as I will be chilling with my family after a LONG absence and way too much work. I would answer any spot e-mails if you get in a bind though.

Roberto,
Company is paying, though I’ll have to keep it reasonable. The company travel agency will have a list of “approved” hotels, just trying to get an idea where to target. I’ll be interested in “interesting” restaurants, not haut cuisine, won’t have a lot of tourist time, but am flying out Saturday evening, so I’ll have the Sunday I arrive, and the whole day Saturday before leaving.

So I’m definitely interested in a few restaurant and music recommendations, probably in the Copacabana/Ipanema area, so I don’t have to go too far. I’m sure I’ll stroll along the beach, but won’t be heading there just to hang out (my San Diego beach days are long gone, at my age;) If there are any not-to-be-missed tourist activities, I’m of course interested.

Not thinking about wine, I’ll be looking for the best Caipirinha I can fine

Thanks!
Alan
