Yeah, I’m certainly not oblivious. I live in the South. Most of that time either on the coast or within an hour of it. Been through a bunch of big storms including 3 weeks without power when Hugo hit Charleston. I have a lot of friends impacted by Sandy and many are having a tough time. I feel for them too. It will improve with time, but for many it won’t be easy.
us too (and we were on a well so we had no water either)
Our hearts really go out to those affected–it’s still a raw nerve with us even after 23 years.
We’ll pop a nice bottle tonight and toast to community and recovery
Hi Ramon,
A tale of two cities, I suppose. There were swarms of children in Halloween costumes strolling up and down Broadway in the West 100s this evening. Lots of chatter and lots of laughter. Most of the shops and stores are open.
We were fortunate to have had power throughout the storm. The forecasts for Maryland had me worried that our state could have experienced far worse damage than it did (although I know many here – especially on the coast – suffered damage and are without power). I am enjoying a bottle of wine while passing out treats tonight, but it is hard not to think of the folks who really got hit hard by this massive storm. I have been paying more attention to the weather news than the board the past few days.
Now that I’m in my nighborhood at 2nd and 46th, I also see plenty of children in costumes strolling up and down 2nd Ave.
It was really kinda weird seeing a dark and deserted East Village. Btw, while I was running back up, I notice quite a few northbound pedestrians rolling bags and suitcases, presumably to crash somewhere north of 39th, where electricity and hot water are avaialble.
East coasters? We’re here…lurking in the shadows. Actually, CNY escaped unharmed, but ROchester was without power in parts. Ithaca some spotty outages, but not much rain here - more a wind event.
No power and no idea when we might get it back. We have been going from friend to friend with wine, beer and thawing meals in hand. So far Dominio IV tempranillo and viognier, L’Aventure Optimus, Sojourn pinot, Halcon syrah, Brooklyn Brewery’s Local 1, Sirachi Ace and Bam Boozled have all been welcomed guests.
Just catching up. Here in south orange, nj and have been without power since Monday. No heat. So many trees down, it is hard to imagine. That said, feel very lucky as all are safe. Kids having fun with no school. People on block having “cook what is in freezer parties”. I have been supplying wine, as they all know I am the nut with a lot of wine in cellar. I have been opening some old selyems - these were too a bit too big for me, but all enjoyed, then a few old ridge Zins and petit syrahs from 2001 and 02. - these are just great. Performing so well. Tonight, I think I’ll go Spanish and bring some older Ribera’s.
We are hoping for power by Monday but it could be another week. And now they say another N’ester on Wednesday. Perish the thought!
