Where are you traveling to in 2025?

I’m just a tourist but this was my fave dinner place last year in St Pete. Very laid back backyard vibe and delicious fish.

Thanks all. I may not have a car so maybe UBER to St Pete or Dunedin. Only have a Saturday and Sunday free.

This is a fun article. Thanks for sharing, Robert.

I’ll add my +1 for Albania. Loved my travels there. Beautiful country kind people.

Brunei, Indonesia (Jakarta), and Japan (10th visit) starting this Tuesday.

I’m off to Germany for work in two weeks. Have one full day of wine tasting scheduled too. In and out of FRA again.

Quick update to my own post. We were in San Miguel de Allende last weekend, and what a city! I had never been, and it exceeded all my expectations. I expected it to be too Americanized and touristy–kind of like Venice–and there are certainly parts of it that are, but my gosh the charms of the city overwhelm any criticism. We had an absolute blast and I can’t wait to return.

January - skiing trip to Les 3 Vallees (France) done
Early May - Lago Maggiore / Alto Piemonte (w Vallana, Colombera & Garella)
Late May - Lago di Garda / Monte Bondone (with east/west alpes passes)

Summer trip in June/July
Planning for an extended 3 1/2 week Roadtrip to Bordeaux (Chateaux and all), to Basque Country (Haro/Rioja, San Sebastian, Bilbao, Burgos), across the Pyrenees (Route des Cols, some hiking), to Catalonia (Costa Brava, Cadaques)

This should give us a great mix of wine, food, culture, people, nature, passes, curves, and beach/sea.

This sounds amazing. Some of my favorite spots on earth.

I just started roughly planning a trip to Friuli (including nearby Slovenia) for September. Wine touring, but also food, local atmosphere and outdoorsy stuff. We haven’t had an internaional trip since our Portugal visit in October of ‘22. So we want to get back to making international travel a regular thing. Anyone who has mentioned travelling to Friuli on Wineberserkers could get a PM from me looking for recommendations and ideas. Thanks in advance. :wine_glass:

If you have any interest in Slovenia, let me know. We went last year and absolutely loved it. Such a gorgeous country.

Thanks, Rich. I sent you a PM.

At 78 and feeling healthy and solvent, this will be a travel year for me.

Just got back from Fort Lauderdale, not exactly a great world destination, but family and some warmth.

April is France, probably ~10 days, a little business, mostly fun. Staying strictly rural, mostly around the Mediterranean, wine country. Chateauneuf (Domaine du Pegau). Lancyre (Pic St Loup). A lovely, forgotten and quirky place to stay is the Hostellerie du Grand Duc (Big Angry Duck) in Gincla. Excellent food and a revelatory, very reasonably priced selection of great well-aged wines from Languedoc.
The Gorges of Galamus (a real destination). Avoiding Bugarach (burned-out hippies). A few days hiking in the Massif Central.

September to Crete, the agrotourism in Milia is amazing. Farm-to-Table has become a cliche. The food here is truly world class. Your rooms have been renovated from the 1500s originals. And then go to Diktina, which is northwest of East Bum… It’s not like Macchu Picchu, more than a thousand years older, not as well preserved and as of 10 years ago, there was nobody there, except the goat that jumped off the roof of my car when I was ready to leave.

Cheating a little for 2025, as I may go back to Patagonia in January, although I’m aiming for December. The end of the world and as beautiful as the beginning.

What excellent adventures!

My father suggested that we all (My father, mother, brother and I) fly to Madrid and drive to the Basques (San Sebastian, Bilbao, etc).
I heard a lot of good things on the wine scene there, but almost all restaurants don’t send you the wine list before arriving…
Anyone here visited Rekondo/Kaia Kaipe (there is a list online, but but with all the prices) and knows the prices for very old Unico/Tondonia, blue chip burgs, Rayas, etc?

I was at Rekondo a couple years ago. We drank '64 Tondonia for around 400. My last visit to Kaia Kaipe was eight years ago, so probably not relevant at this point… we drank '47 Bosconia for 300ish.

Thanks!
Did you visit Ganbara?
Which other restaurants do you reccomend?

There is a thread specifically on San Sebastian which you should check out.
