For Europe suggestions, maybe it be easier if you tell us where you haven’t been😀
Ljubljana perhaps? Fun town, Lake Bled is beautiful.

We’ve been to all of the usual places - but have to take into consideration multiple connections to get places as our originating airport(s) are small and mainly serviced by regional jets with limited flights.
Considering in no order:
I was in Croatia last September, fabulous. Need a car. Loved Sardinia too. Want to go to Corsica.
For Croatia:
We started in Montenegro (Kotor Bay), then Dubrovnik, Split, Zadar, Plitvice Lakes, Rovinj and then ferry to Venice. Beautiful scenery, decent food. The mix of Roman ruins, Venetian architecture and stunning natural beauty was fabulous.
Sicily in April, a self guided walking holiday in northeast and central Sicily.
Tour du Mont Blanc in September, again a self guided hike.
My wife and I love to be outdoors and to hike, especially in the mountains.
So far only wine trips planned. MSP next weekend, Bern’s for SB weekend, NYC for Paulee in March. Also OR is planned for Labor Day weekend for a conference and I expect to be able to visit Willamette Valley for a few days afterwards.
Three weeks in the Spring:
2 1/2 days in Istanbul (flying Turkish Airlines, so we figured we’d make a short stopover), then off to Troisgros for 2 nights. Probably Lyon and Paris to follow, then off to Madrid to meet up with our son, who is spending a semester there. Haven’t really fleshed out the details to any significant degree, other than Troisgros…
We loved Sicily - amazing what you can find on one island. Enjoy!
We just spent 4 days in Madrid - really enjoyed our time there - lots of really great dining!
Other than work travel:
March - Paris solo
May - Spain (Galicia & Basque) w/Jonathan
October - Italy, not sure where exactly, solo
Nov and/or Dec - Japan with Jonathan and maybe his son
I’ll fit in a London long weekend as well, not sure when
February - Budapest
April - San Sebastián
May - Sicily
July - Dublin
September - Ibiza, ES and Florence, IT
Probably a couple more trips in there in October or November.
I travel pretty extensively for work to a wide range of places but almost all of them are lovely and I ultimately appreciate getting to spend time in each. This year will include
Asia Pacific:
Seoul
Singapore
Tokyo
Sydney
Melbourne
Beijing
Hong Kong
EMEA:
London
Stockholm
Helsinki
Dubai
Abu Dhabi
Riyadh
Kuwait
North America:
Boston
SF
LA
Austin
DC
Chicago
Miami
Toronto
Montreal
For family vacation we will do a couple of long weekends in FL during the winter, a week in LA to see my parents, a week skiing in Montana, and then figure out a trip for my wife and I while the kids are at summer camp (thinking Switzerland).
This past year I was traveling in the Middle East in November so we decided to mix it up and do Thanksgiving week as a family in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. It’s the perfect time of year to be there and because it’s not a holiday period for most countries you can stay at amazing resorts for relatively reasonable prices. If anyone is looking for a good beach vacation with a bit of culture or shopping mixed in I would recommend.
Let me know if you need southern France recs. We did Avignon, Carcassone and Cassis last fall with a few day trips along the way. We loved it. More of a sightseeing trip than a wine focused trip but we had tons of great food and wine.
February Mexico city,
May Japan and UK.
Maybe Portugal in the fall.
Currently in Kuala Lumpur and this is the view from our apartment.
My wife and newborns first time out of the Philippines.
I’m thinking about visiting somewhere on the Gulf of America coast. Never been there.![]()
Already had a weekend in NYC.
A weekend in San Miguel de Allende in February.
Spring Break (mid-March) still TBD. Maybe St. Barts.
Summer likely Lake Como (for mother-in-law’s big birthday) and then thinking Greek isles.
Would love to find a time to get to Telluride this summer but the schedule is tough.
We are not good at planning early, and my ever-shifting work schedule doesn’t help. But we always find time to go somewhere fun.
Umbria, Italy, you cannot go wrong. My personal favorite place in the world at the moment, easy to get to, less touristed than many Italian regions, five degrees cooler as the summer weather warms, Sagrantino wine and hearty food, history and art and music. Spello as my home base. chef’s kiss Do tell us where you end up going, wherever it is!
We love Umbria too! We rented a villa on Lago Trasimeno two years ago and had 12 family members ages 19-78. What an amazing trip. We have visited Spello several times.
I’m so glad to hear it! It sounds like Umbria was an amazing trip. ![]()
