I wrote a blog piece a couple of weeks ago on Orchard Hills, which may be the most valuable piece of real estate that’s used for a vineyard, but only because of it’s value for development.
I’m curious though as to what’s the real most expensive vineyard, and what it’s worth? My guess would probably be Romanee Conti, though what it’s worth I couldn’t begin to imagine. One estimate I saw said 8 million Euros, but I’m sure it must be way more than that.
Try Moraga Vineyards. 16 acres in the middle of Bel-Air (about 7-8 planted acres I am guessing). This is essentially on the east side of the 405 freeway from the Getty Museum
RC would be my guess as the most expensive Vineyard on earth and considering that second class GC are going for 4-5 mil an acre my guess would be that RC would be worth 100 mil if not more.
We have a regular customer who is friends / neighbors with the guy who owns Moraga. She delights in taking bottles from our store to his house, letting him rave about them and then answering the inevitable “So what’s it cost, $250?” with , “John, it’s $40!!!”. He went particularly nuts for the 1997 Conte Sertoli Salis Sforzato once…
