What's the largest bottle that you own(ed)?

I have several double mags, but have not opened any yet. Not sure why I bought them, perhaps the novelty of the size; I don’t usually have the opportunity to open that much wine in one sitting, especially of one wine.

I had a 3L of 2005 Trinitas PS. And then I broke it moving my wine around. pileon

Had a 6 liter that we opened for a birthday. It was a pain in the arse. Wound up using a siphon to get the wine into decanters just to pour glasses for everybody. And getting the cork out, that took a half hour and some ingenuity.

9L of 78 Beringer private reserve…was fantastic!

I’ve got a bunch of magnums of stuff, mostly Rhone, OR PN, Mosel riesling, etc. A few 3L’s of Burgundy, Bordeaux, and CA Cab. Nothing too noteworthy though. I decided in 2014 to buy a handful of Champagne 3L’s, as at big parties we often find ourselves going through at least that many bottles.

Just so I’m invited!

That sounds like fun! I have a couple of these as well, did you get yours at Costco recently? I did - $45!

9 liter 01 Pegau. Still have it

Lots of mags, I think I bought as much wine in magnum as in bottle last year.

A few 6l bottles, but nothing too fancy. We enjoyed a 6l of Grand Village 2007 last summer between ten adults with only a little left over for the next day.

6l of 02 Duckhorn Howell mnt merlot…

I was going to get a 3l while it was on sale for cheap at the winery during the holidays and I dropped a good ole fashioned “FI” and figured I had enough friends that a 6r was all good when I’m ready to pop it.

p.s. F.I stands for “f*ck it”.

P.p.s. I actually prefer magnums though, so a 1.5 or 3l is no biggie in my cellar.

Wow! Great list! I have a hard time imagining the size of the party necessary to crank through a 3L of Yquem, or any sweet for that matter. I often look at my 750’s and wonder “what am I going to do with these”:).

Cheers,
Jim

6 liter bottle of 2005 RRR (Ravenswood, Ridge, Rosenblum) Really Big Zin acquired at ZAP before I quit going to that event.

6.0L’s of 1996 Laurel Glen, 2005 Karl Lawrence Cabernet, 2005 Raymond Generations and 2007 Raymond Generations. I have 25+ 3.0L’s from various producers and a few hundred magnums.

Love the big bottles, especially this time of year! champagne.gif

Only one. A 3L 2003 Pavie Macquin.

Bunch of 6L of 1996 Faiveley Clos des Corton, other than that all mags.

Not that big: 3l of Lafite 1983

3 l of 86 Ramonet Montrachet, too expensive to keep. Now just 3 l of a couple vintages of Clos des Lambrays.

I do like the big bottles. They’re fun to look at, fun to open (you do need a bunch of people). Just good fun…
